California GOP warns that Newsom's gas vehicle sales ban will cost jobs

California’s state Republican Party is warning that a new move by Gov. Gavin Newsom to ultimately ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035 could lead to more than 350,000 job losses.

Newsom on Wednesday signed an executive order that will end the sale of all gas-powered vehicles, although it won’t stop people from owning such cars and trucks or re-selling them on the used car market. He also called on state legislators to also ban fracking, but has not yet moved to do so himself.

It’s part of an increasingly aggressive push by some "blue states" and Democratic lawmakers in Congress to attempt to limit the effects of climate change, a push that Republicans have said will cost jobs and limit economic growth.

“Pull away from the gas pumps,” Newsom said. “Let us no longer be victims of geopolitical dictators that manipulate global supply chains and global markets.”

He claimed the order will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent and said that electric cars and trucks are “the next big global industry and California wants to dominate it.”

Any kind of expansion on green policies will see a resulting loss of jobs in the petroleum market. What needs to be done is an expansion of viable long term jobs in the clean energy field to account for potential job loss so this doesn't hit us like it hit England with Thatcher and coal.

It won't happen since there really is no true plan for all in CA or the rest of the nation. Plus the next GOV in Cali can rescind any efforts.

National plan is required for any change.

Does it make a difference if the vehicle or the electric power plant burns the oil/gas?

CA was having a had time keeping homes powered. How do they plan on providing enough energy to charge an influx electric vehicles in 15 years.

So Californistan already has rolling blackouts because they went too deep into unreliable wind and solar. So how are they gonna charge all those electric cars?

11:10 If you think that wind and solar are "Clean" energy sources you are just not up to speed on the realities.

Call the Amish. California, the land of Fruitcakes and Nuts, will be needing Horses and Buggies. Hey Newsome, lead by an example, trade those Ferrari's and Lambos. And don't forget about your private jet. Need a Uber? Here comes Tri-cycle Rickshaw!!

Favorite comment from elsewhere: "State with no electricity mandates only electric cars."

Someone else mentioned most recharging occurs at night; sure hope wind and solar can get used to working a different shift!

And we all know how long executive orders are good for...good until the next governor that overturns it. In 15 years, his order will be long forgotten.
