Parents Reflect On ‘No-Win Situation’ For County Students, Teachers

NEWARK – Parents and teachers this week are adjusting to the news that the school year will begin virtually for the Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) community.

Last Thursday, Superintendent Lou Taylor announced that the school year would begin with distance learning, Stage One of the “Responsible Return” model, for all students. Officials plan to reevaluate conditions every two weeks and hope to move into Stage Two, which would bring small groups of students back into school, by Sept. 28.

“We all recognize that there is no perfect solution to addressing the challenges that this pandemic has created for school systems, including our school system,” Taylor said as he made the announcement last Thursday.

As proposed, WCPS students will engage in distance learning for Stage One, a tiered support model that brings some students back to school in Stage Two, a hybrid alternating week model in Stage Three and full-on face-to-face learning in the final Stage Four.

No extracurricular activities? Band? Fall sports? Art club? ROTC?
Chinese Communists wiped out our humanities. Democrats are making it hurt.

Stop electing Democrats.

At least it's better than Wicomico who just straight up said no school until at least January 29th. At least some Worcester kids might learn.

how are parents supposed to maintain a steady job.open it all back up. the hoax of 2020.if it as bad as they make it out to be,walmart, homedepot and the grocery stores would of been hotspots from day 1!

10:36-Wicomico could care less about parents and their jobs. Hopefully Trump can get the voucher machine rolling. Several of the private schools are filled and they are doing a full on, opening. If vouchers become reality, say goodbye to the public schools. Now, to be sure, if the hood rats get booted from a private school, they go back to public, and the public schools will become pre-detention centers, but at least the kids who want to learn will.

10:36 take the advice my generation was given, lace up your bootstraps and work harder.

You're a little late to the party...several schools are already pre-detention centers. They have zero consequences while in school, but then they end up in jail not understanding why all of a sudden rules/laws matter. Smh.

You do realize that working harder isn't exactly an option if you've got to stay home with your kids and your job isn't something you can do from home. Some of us really want to work and this stupid crap is messing that all up.

If you are an employee for the Worcester school system, your kids can go to school and learn in the classroom. Shhhhh! It’s supposed to be a secret.

Must be nice, we sure don't have that luxury in Wicomico. We can't even bring our kids with us into our classrooms if we want to work from our room to have reliable internet for those of us who live in the country.

I wish you the best of luck with homeschooling your children. You have such a wonderful grasp of writing in regards to your impeccable grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling that I am confident your children will be very successful in their future endeavors.
As far as taxation without representation goes, if you voted that is your representation. It does not mean that the people you voted for have to do everything you want just because you say so. Taxation without representation was during the colonial era when colonists were taxed by the king without any representation in Parliament to speak on their behalf. We have representatives even if we do not like them. I can also see that you clearly paid attention in U.S. History so I am sure you already know this.
