As many students head back to school virtually, counties in Virginia and Maryland are helping parents navigate child care with special programs.
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., children in kindergarten through sixth grade can attend a new Fairfax County initiative aimed at helping parents as children return to school virtually.
The county has announced that the Supporting Return to School Program will run in 37 Fairfax County Public Schools, offering classrooms with groups of no more than 10 children who will stay together each day with staff on hand to support their online learning programs.
There will be a sliding fee scale available for income-eligible families.
Howard County has announced a similar program called RecZone, offering students in kindergarten through fifth grade a full day program in 16 public schools with support for virtual learning assignments.
The 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. program is $325 per week and the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. program is $259 per week, with financial aid available.
Both the Fairfax County and Howard County programs start on Sept. 8.

If they can do day care in schools. There is no reason they can't have kids go back to school in person. Just practice social distancing and wear masks when deemed necessary.
WHAT THE HELL! pay childcare for the very school that it is not safe to attend for a regular school day!!!
Mr obvious has to ask, if they can do this why can't they return to the classroom?????
So it’s not safe to attend school, but it is safe to attend the same school for baby sitting.
Oh great! We are taxed for the schools that are not used for school and now we get the privilege of using the schools for babysitting.
$6 per hour. There had better be a lot of public money to support this.
Can't open schools but you can charge for them to attend "school"
What about ADULT day/nite care????
Asking for a friend of course.
(Snicker snicker)
Double taxation. Wonder how the crew in 1776 would have thought about this?
We the TAXPAYERS paid for that school. It's not fair that my hubby and I work are butts off to just keep a roof, clothes etc. We lost our daycare, now have to teach our kids, meanwhile the school that we finance is being used by people who either have enough money to send them there and pay the extra, or those who's families don't work. WTF!!!!!
they are Just trying to kill the lower-middle class off !!
