Joe, I just went to a local bank near Wal-Mart and while there I asked about their change shortage. I had asked this same question about sixty days ago and was given the answer that the amount of change they were allowed to order each week was severely short of what they needed. Today when I asked the same question they said their shortage was over and that they had all the change they needed. In Wal-Mart I asked an employee at the self checkout areas if they had resolved their change problem yet. She said no and that everyone still has to use a credit card or go to the specific isle and that the bank that I went to might not be the one that Wal-Mart uses.
This led to another lively discussion and I can tell you one thing. Wal-mart doesn't want to resolve this situation because it gives them access to your cards and once again who controls Wal-Mart? China! Wal-Mart is setting you folks up. Wake up and stop drinking the kool aide.

I work for a bank and can tell you the shortage was very real. Based on the size of the bank determined how many boxed of quarters, dimes etc you could order. At a small bank each branch was limited to 1 box per denomination each week. We are now allowed to order 3 of each. The medium and large were allowed to order more but the supply was and still is very limited.
Family dollar on snow hill rd is allowed 1 roll per denomination per day from PNC as of this week per one of their employees. There is no Wal-Mart conspiracy.
This is interesting as I also have experienced several times at Walmart the so called "National Coin Shortage" Same thing at Food Lion but not quite as noticeable there. However, at Aldi's they have told me several times they do not have a coin shortage and have always received the correct change back when paying by cash (which I would prefer to do rather than use my credit card)
But it's such a tasty drink!

Some retail employees probably can't figure out what change you should get back, so they want you to use your card. It's easier for them and less work.
Look at the big picture here, folks. Metal coins have been being made and circulated since before all of us were born, and aside from the collector ones, still exist and last a WHOLE lot longer than paper currency, which needs to be thrown out and replaced on a regular basis, but not that danged often either.
The "shortage" is a lie in order to bring us toward a cashless society so every transaction can be traced to the individual person. This is Government control of the population at it's finest, and the loss of our personal freedoms.

After my recent visit to both Walmarts in Fruitland and North Salisbury, It will be the last place I will shop at only as a last resort!
It has never been an enjoyable experience and it's worse now with lack to cashiers, and long lines at the self checkout!

If your bill comes to $37.32 then give them $37 in paper cash and put the .32 on your credit card. They usually have to pay a percentage of the bill or sometimes even a flat fee per transaction so Walmart or whoever will usually end up paying more than they are credited. Maybe then they will remove the no cash system.
Yes it is real. But it has been created. There is zero reason a bank should not be able to order coins. My bank also told me recently they can now order what ever they want. It made the bankers eyes open for sure. Wake up people. Trump 20/20.
I work at a local bank and I can tell you there never was a problem getting coins. So perhaps the one above works for a national bank. We were allowed to order as many/much as we wanted.
As far as Walmart, they get their coins from Brinks or La Guardia or such, maybe one of them had a shortage, but there wasn't a "national shortage" ever.

Have any of you ever thought that perhaps Walmart finds it just easier and faster if their cashiers don’t have to make change? Have you ever seen the look on the face on some of the cashiers when you opt to write a check?
Half of these “children” do not know how to even write a check. Let’s face it....the lines move faster if the customer just swipes their card rather than sift thru their pocket or purse. Heaven forbid ....we all know that Salisbury Walmart needs faster lines as they would win the prize for the slowest checkout in several states.

The "shortage" has been going on for awhile this due to a good economy. People don't spend change they throw it in a bottle at home. It wasn't as noticeable to the general public until recently though.
Then the chinese virus attacked us and it slowed way down the circulation of coins because of things like public transpiration being shut down Public transportation is the most important factor when it comes to coins circulation. It really isn't a shortage but a circulation interruption.
Anyone been to Royal Farms on Rt 50 lately? They have signs that they "have NO CHANGE" You must use exact money or credit. If you don't have the exact change, they will round your bill UP to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to charity! A charity of their choice. And don't get me started on their self service cash registers! Don't work properly half the time and even when there are 9 people in line, patiently waiting, no one comes out from behind the office barrier to assist. And several people brought it to the attention of the 3 head back there that help was needed out front.
P.S.: Their chicken that day sucked! Dried out, over cooked and even though we didn't order the spicy chicken, there was spice on the chicken as all the chicken - spicy or not - are fried in the same oil. This wasn't the first time this has happened! Our last time ordering chicken from them.

I am very curious about this coin shortage. It started at a time when folks couldn’t spend money except online and a handful of mega stores.

I also work for a bank and can tell you that we went a few weeks without receiving a coin shipment. Each bank uses their own company and each company has their own storage vault. So I would imagine the severity of the shortage would depend on what company you used. We never got a to a sever low where we had no coin, but it was substantially lower for about a month or so.
As far as Walmart goes, I can't speak to that. But I would imagine with the pull Walmart holds, if they wanted coin they would have it by now.

Not really sure what half of this means, but I assume you have a computer or cell phone if you are typing on this board. That means the government can already track you. Why would they need to track through money when there are plenty of options that are already used daily?
