USC’s School of Cinematic Arts to Remove John Wayne Exhibit

The University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts announced Friday that it will remove its exhibit of Hollywood legend John Wayne, citing an initiative to promote “anti-racist cultural values” following protests from students.

“Conversations about systemic racism in our cultural institutions along with the recent global, civil uprising by the Black Lives Matter Movement require that we consider the role our school can play as a change maker in promoting antiracist cultural values and experiences,” Evan Hughes, the assistant dean of diversity and inclusion, said in a statement. “Therefore, it has been decided that the Wayne Exhibit will be removed.”

Yet another assault on free speech. These were his opinions. I disagree, but support his right to say what he thought. That’s how we achieve a greater understanding and have conversations to change hearts and minds. Such stupidity by the University. When my kids demand something...I jump right to it - nope!

What a crock! John Wayne is a legend, an icon. Look what he did in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. He was a hero to many young boys. What's next, the Statue of Liberty? You might laugh, but remember it's in New York.

Sad that every new generation has to change history given their feelings, beliefs and opinions. Change and it MUST be immediate, or else.

WoW when did we get to this point?

Eventually no one will remember given history has been erased.

Crazy times indeed!

They are also going to teach that the founding fathers were a bunch of "Raciest" and Slave owners that regularly raped, sodomized, beat and were brutal to their slaves. They were "Traitors" to the Crown of England, and helped in the Genocide of the Native Americans.

IMO quite a bit heavy for 4th graders.

It's the Cancel Culture at work, rewriting history through shaming all, past and present, living and dead, for things said yesterday that aren't liked today by a minority coddled and feared by academia and the MSM, and loved as a special, insidious tool to be used to undermine societal underpinnings.

It's a film school. Film schools teach and celebrate film. Wayne is an American film icon remembered for his 50 plus years of contributions to the art and the industry. But it's also a university in California, which explains everything.

The only reason Turner Classic Movies is still on the air is that these moron kids don't know it exists.

I don’t know of anything that John Wayne said that would offend anyone. But, I’m with The Duke on this one.

11:53 He spoke in an interview for Playboy magazine in 1973 about Queers and called them "sick Butt Pirates" and this is upsetting for the Liberals.
