City Council approves more than $22M in cuts to BPD amid calls to defund police

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore City budget committee approved measures Monday to cut funding to some of the police department's specialized units.

The full City Council, which is meeting Monday night, has the final say over the city's $3 billion spending plan.

Line by line, the Baltimore City Budget and Appropriations Committee cut funding to the Baltimore Police Department's budget.

"These cuts are, and I'm going to say it again, responsible cuts to the police department's budget," Council President Brandon Scott said. "This is about transparency and accountability."

10 million cuts to over time ? Ahh no pay for court, no pay for homicide investigations for call out and if it runs past shift and they always do... The most dangerous city in America police department gets sanctioned for something that happened in a different state. Good luck cops will be doing nothing.

Finely a decent amount of work hours and schedule for the cops.
Mon-Fri. 9am to 5:30 pm.

Citizens are on your own after hours and weekends.

Make sure you take the Mare's security detail away from him.

Run as fast as you can. As ppl leave the city property values decline and shrinks the tax base even more. Next comes higher tax rates and even more exodus.

Look around Salisbury you already have a decent amount of the crowd moving here. Jake Day has laid out the red carpet for them. I give salisbury five years and it will be a carbon copy

You're right. I sold my house to them myself. Got what I wanted. Glad I'm gone. Wait until September when schools open up. You will see a demographic that will scare you. As it should.

That will certainly help them with the 68% of murders that were not solved in 2019

IIRC, Scott won the recent mayoral primary. In Harm City that means he can start redecorating the mayor's office. As mayor he's going to have to administer the budget he's crafting. Rotsa Ruck!

Each of these cities, mayors, councils, governors racing like lemmings to cut their police will rue the day. And the normal, regular citizens will pay the price in death and injury many times over before things get better. Damn shame.

Hmmmm Baltimore PD should decide where the cuts come from. City official protection detail would be the first cut. Second would be the high crime black areas. They don't want you there anyway

They are pissed that Chicago has more murders than Baltimore. With less cops they can fire at will and go for the record.
