To me, it's just ripples/waves caused by the earthquake. I'm not seeing the big deal (unless you're on a boat out there). That would explain the rhythmic ride.
Just got back from a cruise in the Caribbean and it was rough out there. We couldn't dock in one port due to high winds and rough seas. The ship literally hid behind an island off Cuba just so we could eat dinner. We then braved our journey to Florida. Don't quite understand all of the data mentioned in the article. But seeing is believing.
