Rep. Mark Meadows to retire in 2020

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) announced Thursday that he won't seek re-election in 2020.

Meadows is one of the visible House Republicans and one of President Trump's most loyal defenders on Capitol Hill. He becomes the 24th House Republican to announce his retirement in 2020, further complicating the GOP's path to regaining the chamber's majority next year.

Meadows contemplated leaving office for months, but he finalized his decision this week.

Trump floated Meadows' name when searching for a new chief of staff to replace John Kelly last December, but he ended up choosing Mick Mulvaney for the role.

Meadows has been suggested for the role again in recent months after reports that Trump is butting heads with Mulvaney.

Not sure what is going on with the GOP and all the decisions not to run in 2020. Perhaps some are intending to run for senate seats?

Ok. I heard that these elected officials will lose some of their life long benefits in the near future. For example, health care, full pay check etc once they leave office. If these elected officials retire before this new law goes into effect they will keep their benefits. Correct me if you know different please.
