After Local’s Death From Allergic Reaction, OC Council Member Suggests Law Change On EpiPens In Private Establishments

OCEAN CITY — In a community still coming to grips with the loss of one it its young pillars, an effort is underway to pursue legislation in his honor that might save lives in the future and provide some solace to those continuing to mourn.

Late last month, local resident Chris Trimper suffered an extreme allergic reaction during a reception following a golf tournament fundraiser at the Poseidon restaurant at the Ocean Downs Casino and did not survive. Trimper was administered an epinephrine auto-injector, or epi-pen, at the scene when paramedics arrived, but had suffered extreme seizures from the reaction.

Last weekend, hundreds turned out for the memorial service for Trimper at the Performing Arts Center in the Roland E. Powell Convention Center to remember the affable 42-year-old husband and father of three young children.

What pisses me off is that they make law enforcement carry narcan, for the opiod addict. But they could give two hoots about people with severe allergic reactions. The powers that be care more about useless drug addicts over every day citizens.

Did he have one with him? With an allergy like that, I would think he should have carried one, in which case one of his companions could have administered it if he were unable to.

Do you really want bus boys with this responsibility? Do you want food service workers responsible for acquiring, maintaining, training, and administering medical care.

Does this mean the establishment is also liable? What happens if the epi pen is out of date? What if it doesn't work. Can they be sued? Not sure how I feel about this.

Ridiculous to suggest this. Who is going to determine when the epi pen is administered?

You can't expect restaurants to be responsible for administering this.

Mary Knight says” there’s no law allowing private entities to store epipen’s.” huh? Allowing?? You mean FORCING.
She wants a law that forces private entities to monitor and treat Irresponsible strangers food allergies then provide a qualified person to assess a strangers medical needs and administer treatment. Maybe she has good intentions but she is a moron. Probably a stupid liberal.
