(TNS) — As leading business and religious groups consider whether to endorse the return of crime-fighting surveillance planes above Baltimore, a poll commissioned by a prominent local pastor shows strong support for the initiative among city residents.
Backers funded the survey to gauge sentiment on the planes as violent crime remains stubbornly high, skepticism lingers from the secretive rollout of surveillance flights in 2016 and Police Commissioner Michael Harrison has said there’s insufficient evidence of the planes’ effectiveness.
The Rev. Alvin Hathaway Sr., senior pastor of Union Baptist Church in Upton and a member of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s board of directors, said he used a $40,000 grant from the Abell Foundation to commission the poll by Hart Research Associates. He said he had been hearing community members express support for such surveillance and wanted to be “a little bit more factual” in determining whether interest was widespread.

Every utility pole and street Light should have a camera. A geosynchronous orbiting surveillance satellite would be a luxury, I guess.
Northwest Woodsman: A few years back, our black citizens thought body cameras on police officers would be a great idea because it would expose police racial bias and brutality against them. Unfortunately, in the majority of cases, it reflected the opposite and exposed their lack of respect for law and order and put on display their criminal behavior. I’d suggest they think twice about airborne surveillance as it may have similar results. You know, unintended consequences.
I already thought they did that. I go there a fair amount. Would be fine with me if they had drones monitoring things. They need to get rid of the red light cameras everywhere. It causes rear enders from one person stopping and the person behind trying to beat the yellow.
The hell with Baltimore. Nobody travels to it. They should close it up and let the animals kill each other. Then knock it down and start all over.
what good is the planes when they will not arrest and prosecute? How dumb is this plane crap? Just another way for HOGAN and the Democrats waste money and jack up our taxes.
I think they meant that 74% support aerial bombing of Baltimore. It would work wonders. Sometimes you have to admit defeat, reset the playing field and start over, even if it is 50 years overdue. I'll pay to learn how to fly if I can be the pilot, and I would only charge for the bombs needed to do the job. A burned forest rejuvenates itself over time.
