Los Angeles officials looking for governor to declare state of emergency on homelessness

Some Los Angeles elected officials, looking for ways to combat a growing homelessness problem in the area, are hoping Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom will declare a state of emergency to combat the issue.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and City Councilman Joe Buscaino have proposed the idea, which could potentially allow for more state and federal funding in effort to provide solutions, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The county has seen its homeless population increase to nearly 60,000 people, up 12% over last year. The county has instituted a Measure H sales tax to raise $355 million to put toward "expanding the County's strategies to combat homelessness."

1:35 probably not, they are all living with relatives, 20 people crammed into a 2 bed room house. Of course they are all collecting all kinds of free government handouts while American citizens live on the street.

The governor and Pelosi can’t see them from their mansions so no worries.

These areas that have this problem should never get Fedreal tax dollars. Those Politians made the problem and does nothing to correct this problem so why should my Federal taxes be given to these areas? The people in these areas need to elect problem solvers or live with their problems.

Northwest Woodsman: Californians elect these incompetent marxists and deserve exactly what the results are. Let them wallow in trash and human excrement until they figure out for themselves what the problem is and what the solution is. I lived in Hermosillo Beach for five years and loved it. It set the standard by which I judge other locations. Went back there several years ago and felt like I had crossed the border and was in Mexico.
