After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said: "Let me see if I've got this right.
You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages and instill in them a love for learning.
You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self-esteem and personal pride.
You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a check book, and apply for a job.
You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and ensure that they all pass their final exams.
You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicap and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Arabic or any other language, by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card
You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for "New Start."
(Added by DDP): [It sounds that you want me to do the job at which my student's parents are failing miserably. It sounds like instead of one, two or five rug-rats, curtain-climbers or juvenile delinquents to raise you are going to burden by with thirty students and expect me to attain those results that are not expected of PARENTS.]

I CAN'T wear a necklace with a little cross, mention God, or say "Merry Christmas" because someone might take offense? " [You forbid me from providing my students with the "American Culture" because it is "RACIST". You accuse me of "white privilege" while hard work might be the reason I have been able to become a teacher. Working a second job instead of staying home and watching "American Idol" or the "Bachelor" or "Survivor" and any of the pre-scripted reality shows so that I can afford to buy a home, go on vacation and "live the dream."]
Well, you know what you can do with your job........
This should be posted in every school in America and all countries.
Think about it!
If Muslims can pray anywhere, why are Christians banned from praying in public and from erecting religious displays on their holy days?

It's not just the School system, but state agencies as well.
I work for the state. I am allowed to decorate my cubical for Christmas, but we are not allowed to have a Christmas tree, or wreath in our office.
Nothing religious what so ever. Even our clothes much be totally free of any company logo's or statements that might offend someone. Even our calendars are plain. No pictures or even nature scenes unless approved my management.
The only thing I agree with is that tattoos must be covered up.
Must be very careful also on what you say or do.
Everything, is monitored and can be used against you in the future and can be grounds for dismissal if you what you say or do might be interpreted as racist or sexist.
It's not just the schools, it's in the workplace as well.
Sigh.

Not being allowed to force people to participate in your religious practice is infringing on your religious liberty, it's not allowing you to infringe on theirs. When will you folks figure that out?
No one is stopping Christians from erecting religious displays on their holy days. This is also false. You can do whatever you want on you private land, and on public land you can put up the displays as long as it is not the focal point of the display and that other religions displays are also allowed.
You CAN wear a cross as a teacher on your necklace. No, you cannot take time on your job, it is your employment, to proselytize to other peoples children. This is school, not worship service or Sunday school.
I don't think anyone has been restricted from saying Merry Christmas, unless I missed something, and am happy to be corrected there with verifiable evidence to the contrary.
Christian, you seriously need to get over yourselves and your overactive persecution complexes. You are the majority of the population, and have been for almost all of America's history. Almost all elected officials local, state, and federal, judges, representatives, senators, presidents... nearly ALL of them Christian. That means the laws on the books, were done by Christian hands. So please just stop it all ready.
You've missed the point. Yes, I'm ok with the no religious symbols, etc. But our schools are so out of control. I'd know. I was a teacher for ten years. Every year got worse and worse, especially during Obama's "hug a thug" years
They want the education system to be a horrible failure so your children come out stupid and easier to control and manipulate as adults.
OMG, bless the teachers out there today for even trying. No way I'd make it as a teacher in the system today, first 5 minutes, I'd be fired cause I'd let them kmow that I'm the teacher so sit down and pay attention. I'm quite sure that would offend someone and I'd be gone.
The government is not to establish a particular religion as a rule to force on all the people. But not interfere with the people's religious practices unless such practice is a violation of an existing law. Wearing cross necklaces or other symbols of faith and being told to remove them in a classroom (which does happen) violates our right to exercise religious expression. It is all about freedom OF religion not freedom FROM religion.

In fact, it is exactly that, freedom from religion. The establishment clause protects the American public from a tyrannical religious group bent on theocracy, by protecting people freedom of religion. You may practice, or not practice, religion as you see fit as long as it's practices do not violate laws, nor to they infringe upon the rights of others. Exactly that, freedom FROM religion.
