OCEAN CITY — Resort officials this week agreed to reiterate the town’s opposition to the proposed location of wind turbines off the coast of Ocean City, suggesting they be placed even further offshore than what was originally desired.
After months of relative inactivity in the ongoing development of offshore wind energy farms off the coast of Ocean City, the issue arose anew near the end of Tuesday’s Mayor and Council meeting with Councilman Tony DeLuca pushing for another letter to the governor outlining the town’s opposition to the proposed siting of the vast turbines just 17 miles offshore.
Since the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) in 2017 approved two offshore wind energy projects off the coast of Ocean City, town officials have been in a prolonged battle to have the two approved companies site their wind turbines as far as 26 nautical miles off the coast, or a distance believed to have the turbines not visible from the shoreline. After considerable debate, US Wind acquiesced somewhat and has since agreed to place its turbines no closer than 17 miles from the resort’s coast.

Must be superman if they can see them at 17 miles. Grow up lil boys and get a grip on yourselves.
What's the big damn deal. I'll tell you. Because those north end bullies, including county commissioners, have to flex their muscles and to have their way over everybody. If the state had said 33mi OC would have upped it for powers sake. Hogan has donors in OC so expect it to be 33. State mandated recycling pertains to everyone but OC. All their recycle gets carried out with the trash
Why? Because OC is OC. Big money, big power. So if you ever, ever, hear Hogan sympathizing about environmental issues, ask him why he lets one of the biggest economies in the state, gets away with not having to recycle. The bullies up north didn't want the liquor board anymore, it's gone. They have one store left, county owned. Why no urgency to tie up that loose end? Because they wielded and executed their supreme authority. They got what they wanted. I'd like to see the P&L on that place. So, the damn turbines are going to be put where OC damn well pleases. The letter is just so Hogan won't look like a little OC bitch, and it can look like he is giving permission. What a laugh.
Turbines off Ocean City will wreak havoc for local fisherman, effect weather radar, and degrade military radar. This area is not only important to the Navy but is in the direct path of our Nation's capital. Wind turbines will be destroyed in hurricane force winds and will disrupt view from tourists with the hundreds of red blinking lights. The energy produced cannot be justified by it's magnificent costs, so our electricity bills will increase by 20% or more.
