Shortly after 2:40 p.m. today, troopers from the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack received notification of a place crash in a corn field off of Tall Timber Road near Makin Lane in Berlin, Maryland. According to a preliminary investigation, the pilot, Robert Bunting, 62, of Berlin, Maryland told troopers that he had engine trouble and landed his plane in the field.
When troopers arrived, the plane, a 1976 Grumman Acft Eng Cor-Schweizer crop duster was fully engulfed in flames. Bunting, who owned the aircraft, was checked by EMS personnel from the Berlin Fire Company on the scene and released. The plane was not carrying any chemicals on board at the time of the crash. The Berlin Fire Company worked to extinguish the fire. The Federal Aviation Administration also assisted at the scene.
No injuries were reported on the ground as a result of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

When an aircraft gets close to timed out (engine and airframe), sometimes it's better to just let the insurance buy me a new one!
Ever notice how good Eastern Shore pilots are?When emergency crews arrive at the scene expecting to see carnage they encounter the pilot and passengers walking around at the scene like it's just another day.
Same thing happened to me flying out of Columbia years ago. Glad the pilot is ok.

The eastern shore is one of the best places to make an emergency landing. All the land is flat. Hardly any rocks so the dirt is soft and plenty of straight flat areas to gently bring it down. You also have a lot of lift from the heat radiating off of the flat ground.
Usually its the people who fly in mountain ranges or extremely large forest that are screwed.

When I read the headlines my first thought was hope that the plane had AOC and the other members of the crazy four on it!
I wondered how long it was going to take before he crashed that plane. Did he just get his pilot's license?
He wasn't crop dusting. What the hell was he doing?
Look busy bodies, Robert has been flying almost as soon as he could walk. There's nobody better in a small engine plane than him.
