A Viewer Writes: When "selling" doesn't really mean "selling" in OC

Some people may have noticed the “bus wraps” that have come about in OC over the last several years. When it started, it was mostly driven by local businesses interested in advertising and was pretty effective. The placement of these bus wraps was primarily thru selling efforts but I don’t think that is the case any longer. The majority of these wraps required any selling at all. It has just been a transfer of taxpayer collected funds (some call it money laundering). The killing of the Dew Tour in favor of a Coca Cola vendor franchise is a different story.

The content of the latest bus wraps (and now even TRAM advertising) has become mostly social Government program related: HIV, Food Stamp, addiction, etc. Yes there are still Phillips Seafood and new Brasure advertisements but the bulk of them are becoming nothing more that Government to Government funding transfers (not selling anything) simply to burn money. On one hand, this keeps the cost high to independent local advertisers. On the other, “who needs them” and why does Maryland collect more taxes than it can spend.

We still need Trump in 2020. The job isn’t done yet.

Billboards are the same; mostly government funded. Most of the messaging is for the needy or is negative.

Looks to me like you're overthinking this whole wrap advertising program

As far as the PSAs go I am all for them. We need more of them. If you grew up in the 80's or prior PSAs were all over the place. I dont see many PSAs now.

It is a form of government subsidizing business. The printing companies love it!!

Dew Tour going away had nothing to do with Coca-Cola. I swear, I don't know where people get such ideas. Dew Tour was only supposed to do O.C. the one year; it was so popular, it returned for more years. The tour wanted to focus more on West coast locations, including snow boarding locales.
