BALTIMORE —Maryland is launching a two-year pilot program to test digital license plates.
Maryland is the first state on the East Coast to test the new digital plates, which are similar in size to traditional metal plates but have an electronic display, according to the Motor Vehicle Administration.
The plates, made by Reviver, are being tested on 20 MVA fleet vehicles and two Maryland Transportation Authority vehicles.
"At MDOT MVA, we are constantly evaluating emerging technologies in the transportation industry to find innovative ideas that could benefit our customers," MVA Administrator Chrissy Nizer said in a statement. "We are excited about the digital plate pilot and the potential of this technology to pave the way for additional customer convenience."
The technology would allow vehicle owners to update information, like registration, electronically instead of with a sticker. The display can also be updated to show information, such as AMBER Alerts or an alert if a car is stolen.

Just something else to cost US more $$$$ > Not needed
A........no!!
This is not a good idea. More Big Brother.
Does anyone realize how stupid this is? Ocean City already has the ability to scan the current license plates and search for evidence of criminal misconduct. This effort is for using a different technology to achieve the same goal. Why do they call these people Public Safety? I read elsewhere where "Public Safety" is purchasing patrol vehicles with 400HP. Don't they realize that we have moved past Thunder Road and we have technology in the form of radar and communications? It is no longer about how fast a "Public Safety" official can catch a law breaker. Just take a picture of the TAG and mail them a ticket. Never mind that wireless internet has dead spots.
Batteries die
Weather
Break
Bad stupid idea
Hell , with that People could Alter their tags !!! Stupid Idea

Someone will die because of a bad display.
Agreed, best believe they will be tracking you and it will be hackable, just like smart meters... For this thing to update as the lady said in the article, it would need to have a wireless connection... Think about it... Even jeep cant stop hackers from attacking the wifi on their Cherokee... You think the state govt of bazi maryland give a damn about security????
Like everything else with MVA.........it's all about money, money, money!!
Ok, "Sweet One." How's the cult?

Toughest part of the process is cleaning the old year tab so the new one adheres to it. Plate is in second decade of service and hasn't needed a battery change yet.
Hogan, fire someone.
HOGAN YR A AHOLE.
just another money grab by the money hungry politicians
What a waist
Just leave things alone please
If you look at the website the tags are 349 or 499 for the "pro" version, both with a monthly maintenance fee. And I thought they were out to help the ordinary person. Who can afford this on top of all it costs to have a car? Oh, that's right. They want to get rid of cars. It would be funny if they weren't so serious.
Sounds as bad a cell phones. You'll be reading what this tag says and hit something, rear end that person or hit someone.
9:07- Actually, he has a point. I don't think he is the guy we're both thinking about, who always refers to the brain initiative.
No 6:37, it's not about money. It about surveillance & big brother being able to track you at all times, knowing where you go, and how many miles you drive for the upcoming milage tax already being planned.
People could just Make a New year sticker >> Stupid !!!
