Danny Glover chided by lawmaker for reparations hearing interruption

Actor Danny Glover was chastised by a lawmaker Wednesday for speaking out of turn during a congressional hearing on reparations.

"Mr. Glover, with great respect, the panel and the way we operate is that we go from member to member and they can ask questions, and if the next person wants to ask you, they can ask you," Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., told the 72-year-old actor.

Glover, of "Lethal Weapon" fame, had just provided testimony to the House Judiciary Committee's Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee that was unsolicited by a member of the panel, which had been convened to discuss a bill that would create a commission to study how to make amends to black Americans for slavery.

So many questions. How would reparations be doled out and to whom? Who would qualify...all black people? How much is slavery worth? Granted, what happened to those people so many years ago is a travesty and unconscionable. Human rights and dignity are violated on a daily basis in some countries. What would reparations solve? Will it make black people more employable or willing to work and get off public assistance? Will reparations solve the inner city crisis of rampant crime and gang wars? Will reparations solve the educational system? Truth...all it will fuel is the greed and want of MORE REPARATIONS, it will never be enough.

They got their reparation with affirmative action. I was discriminated against my whole life for being a white male under affirmative action. I was and saw many white males passed over in favor of a minority worker for hirings and promotions. At one time for about twenty years the MSP would not hire any white males you had to be female, Hispanic or black. This was to get the ratio of minorities up. So should white males get reparations for being discriminated against also. I think reparations is a bad idea and will cause worse race relations and tensions then we already have.

Neither damn one of you deserve one thin dime. This is nothing more that to see just how far you can push. How much more you can get for free. None of you have suffered at all as a result of slavery. If anything, you have received the right to live in the greatest country in the world. You enjoy more freedoms than anyone in Africa. Would you rather live there or here? It's the tax money of the working people in America. Even if you were granted reparations, not all of you would get it. Those on welfare would not receive anything. Those of you who work will have it taken out in taxes and just given right back to you. So in reality, you will receive nothing. Plus whites rescued blacks from slavery. What does the white race get for that? Blacks sold them into slavery, and whites rescued them from slavery. Price paid in full.
