If you had to place Maryland’s seven Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives on an ideological spectrum, you would probably say 2nd District Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger is considerably more centrist than most of the rest.
Not that Ruppersberger is anyone’s idea of a conservative. But he is an old-fashioned lunch pail Democrat who represents several working class and suburban areas near Baltimore.
So at first glance, it was somewhat surprising this week to see Ruppersberger actively embracing the so-called Green New Deal, the aspirational document most closely associated with freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) – and one roundly mocked by many Republicans. On the other hand, considering that there are whispers about Ruppersberger facing a challenge from the left in the 2020 Democratic primary – with no tangible evidence at the moment – maybe it isn’t so surprising after all.
Ruppersberger telegraphed his support for the policies in the Green New Deal in an email to supporters.

The reality of a changing climate and finite fossil fuels is one that cannot be ignored. When the wells dry up the oil barons will be dead and their children will be fine living off the hedge fund while we the people have to deal with skyrocketing energy prices and potable water shortages. Other countries are spearheading the green initiative and their technology will be the cash cows of the future. What do we expect from the baby boomer generation who chooses to let the generations after them deal with their excessive consumption and ignorance? Don't get me wrong, it would be great to live in pure bliss knowing that the world won't undergo significant changes before I die. Sadly that is not the reality.
But chug your Natty Lite lemonade, essentially piss diluted with piss and let the Jimmy Buffet songs rage on my man.
"The reality of a changing climate and finite fossil fuels is one that cannot be ignored..."
And in 1978 Jimmy Carter told us the world had less than 10 years worth of petroleum left. How did that work out for you, buddy? Yes, the supply may well be finite but it will not be depleted in your lifetime.
As for your bullcrap regarding climate change, just keep in mind that the earth is 4.5 BILLION years old and the climate has been constantly changing and will continue to do so no matter what you wish or do.
In MY reality, Bill Gates and his ilk are spraying the skies with whatever toxic ingredients they can't squeeze into their vaccines and nobody notices.
