SNOW HILL — The second of two local men indicted last fall in a sophisticated marijuana-growing operation pleaded guilty this week and was placed on probation for one year.
Michael Cluster, 33, of Berlin, was indicted by a Worcester County grand jury last fall on multiple counts including possession of over 10 grams of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to manufacture marijuana after the execution of a search and seizure warrant revealed a vast pot-growing operation on a property just north of Berlin. On Tuesday, Cluster pleaded guilty to the conspiracy to manufacture charge and the other counts against him were not prosecuted. Cluster was placed on supervised probation for one year. He was also ordered to forfeit over $3,200 in cash and equipment.
Cluster’s co-defendant in the case, John Harrison, 31, also of Berlin, last month pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to 18 months, all of which was suspended in favor of probation and a forfeiture of equipment seized during the investigation.

I'd like to know what this "sophisticated marijuana-growing" operation really was. Possession of over 10 grams? Not 10 lbs, not 100 lbs, but 10 grams! And forfeit $3200.00 in cash AND equipment. Heck, that is nothing but a closet operation for personal use, and nothing "sophisticated" about it. Way to go Worcester County. I guess that's the county's version of capturing El Chapo. That was a lot of time and money waste of our legal system on a victimless crime. Worcester County would have to call out the national guard if they ever actually saw a sophisticated growing operation. What a joke. Somebody with a personal grudge calls in a complaint, and Worcester County treats it like a cartel operation. They probably had stakeouts and everything for that less than an ounce of pot, and $3200.00 in cash and equipment. Boy the county cops are going to have to find something else that is actually worthwhile to do when (yes when, not if) Maryland legalizes it. They will be able to lay off about halve of the deputys and all the pot sniffing dogs when that happens. Why do YOU think the cops are so against legalization? That's right. It will cost law enforcement many of their jobs, and all the money that they confiscate for trumped up charges against pot smoking citizens.
All those law enforcement resources used to just get probation sentences for the defendants. Shows how little the actual charges amounted to. Harrison and Cluster, El Chapo not. This "vast pot growing operation" was obviously just a trumped up charge. Way to go Worcester County.
Probation. Yawn...Sounds like a prosecutor was looking for re-election.

so why do people who are caught with over 10 grams and who are not operating a growing facility get prison time instead of probation? oh that`s right this is the eastern shore where the good ole boy network supersedes the criminal justice system established by the constitution.
