ANNAPOLIS, Md. — After police used a new technique to arrest a man suspected of being the Golden State Killer, a Maryland legislator proposed a law that would prohibit use of a familial DNA database for the purpose of crime-solving.
House Bill 30, sponsored by Del. Charles Sydnor, D-Baltimore County, seeks to prohibit searches of consumer genealogical databases for the purpose of identifying an offender in connection with a crime through their biological relative’s DNA samples.
In 1994, the state enacted the Maryland DNA Collection Act, which authorized the gathering of DNA for an official investigation of a crime, to identify human remains, and to identify missing persons, among other purposes.
In 2008, Chapter 337 amended the Collection Act to allow the state to gather and retain DNA from people arrested for burglary or violent crimes at the time of their arrest.

WTF? So the criminal should not be caught? The proposal makes no sense to me.
We had a book in school many moons ago. It was titled My Maryland. Today it would be My, My, Maryland. Each passing day since the early settler's things go down hill. Sad all over the country. But, thank you President Trump for giving it everything you have and more.
This is when they attempt to restrict / take away my 2nd amendment rights and not allow me to carry / own a weapon for self / family protection. Gives the impression that Democrats wants crime to run wild and then close prisons. Maryland Democrats just adds this to their list of destroying democracy. They have already made MD a sanctuary State.
It used to be called The Free State, as in personal freedom. That's changing into the state where lots of stuff is free, but people aren't as much as they used to be.
Actually this is the first time I side with a Dem. This is collection of evidence whether you are on trial or not. Very similar (IMO) to the speed cameras around here. And the Constitution protects us (or is supposed to) on this very item.
Apparently he has something to hide if he wants to put up roadblock for investigators who try to solve crimes.
Sydnor is an idiot the parents and loved ones of those victims deserve justice no matter when or what it takes they deserve answers. This can solve so many of those old crimes I say put it to use and clear up COLD CASE FILES, while the families are still living. I hope this amendment fails.
So if you are a perp, just be sure your entire family knows you are a criminal and therefore they shouldn’t use 23&me or any other DNA testing...problem solved.
