Woman charged in flag incident accepts plea agreement

Conditions require restitution, apology, donation to Camp Barnes

A Wilmington woman charged in connection with burning a flag left on the Nassau Bridge in honor of a police officer has accepted a plea agreement that withdraws the charges if certain conditions are met.

The woman was scheduled for arraignment Aug. 13 in Sussex County Court of Common Pleas, but she took a plea in connection with charges issued July 13. Police say she stopped her car on the Nassau Bridge and took a Thin Blue Line flag that was secured to the guardrail.

A witness reported the incident, and police stopped the 21-year-old in Milton. By then, police said, the woman no longer had the flag because she set fire to it and destroyed it. Police charged her with theft, criminal mischief and traffic offenses.

A second woman faces charges after police say she stopped her car on the bridge July 24 and tampered with flags, which by then had grown to seven, attached to the guardrail following the first incident. She was charged before the flags were removed from the bridge. In court documents, the woman said she took the flags down because she believed the flags should be red, white and blue. She was charged with attempt to commit theft under $1,500 and criminal mischief.

Just put the thin blue line on a white or black back round. Why drag the flag into this. People are just as likely to be clueless as to it's meaning.

That's how it started, on a black background. Now they are putting it on the flag.

I support this woman and back her 100%. Our flag is red, white and blue and if you want to follow another flag, well, you are not American. I'm 64 and have NEVER seen any USA flag other than the RW&B since I was born, and am totally against the abomination of that by no other than our own law enforcement agencies. The absolute gall of them to claim to have alliegence to a different flag than mine is an insult to me and my Country.

LEO's need to reconsider thinking they fly under a different flag than the the one that represents the United States Of America.

Oh, and FUCK YOU.

If she had burned a confederate flag she would be getting a parade!

She should have insisted on a jury. No jury would have convicted her of cleaning up trash placed on a public bridge. The blue line on the flag defaced the flag, which is also illegal and makes it no longer a us flag. Needs a good lawyer.
