Trump’s Pentagon Taking More Assertive Stance Against China on Taiwan

The U.S. Navy has sailed ships through the Taiwan Strait throughout the last decade but normally kept those operations quiet — perhaps out of concern it would provoke China, who considers Taiwan its territory and the Taiwan Strait its territorial waters.

But in June, that changed. For the first time since 2007, both the U.S. Navy and Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense publicly confirmed that U.S. Navy ships sailed through the Taiwan Strait, on June 7 and 8.

According to a Taiwanese official, that “was the first time that both US Navy and Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense publicly confirmed such voyage since 2007.”

A U.S. Navy official confirmed that the U.S. Navy had gone “on the record” to confirm the June transit, and that it was the first time that had happened in recent memory. The official said previously there had been a “stranglehold” on discussing such operations that stemmed from the previous administration.

Joe,

I was at Salisbury's "National Night Out" this evening and had a couple of takes:

- A very classy way for the Mayor and crew to pretend to be interested in the lives of those they govern but have no interest in the other 364 days of the year...

- A completely fraudulent redistribution of donated money that was supposed to go towards lower income families and police/community relations; in the form of a 5k race that LOST donated money simply because Barbara Duncan likes to run. How many impoverished and under-represented people participate in 5k runs? A total misuse of donated funds to further her political clout with the Camden and St. Francis crowd. Could have been much better spent than on the 40 or so "elitist" participants who received a bunch of swag at that expense of well meaning donors...

- The Sheriff put no money into the event but stole the show with the Harley's. Funny how he continues to make a mockery of Jake and Barb without spending a dime. What a politician!

- If I was a donor I would FOIA the donation/expense report and see how much money was lost on Barb's "pursuit" run and all of the associated goodies. I wouldn't donate a dime next year if it lost money that could've been better spent on those who really need it.

It's wonderful to see police and community interact, but not when donated money is being misappropriated to unnecessary places on the whim of a complete idiot.

Just my take.
