When the language was created for these "special event zones" it was created for ALL events. However, it turns out there are no special event zones for Jeep Week or Bike Week and let me assure you, car clubs are pissed!
It would seem to me that Ocean City is purposely looking to push certain groups out. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I can tell you that I personally am involved in a massive project to relocate many of these events to another location in the next two years, if all goes as planned. If Ocean City wants to slap these groups in the face, we're going to fix it.
More to come...

Rickie - more bad publicity for you and the minions of City Hall. Rule after rule after rule after rule has the walls crumbling in your tiny time town. Guy Guy cannot keep coming up with laws that prevent this that and the other thing...hell isn't it time for him to retire? He can always have his golden pass (ala McDonalds) for Paul Revere's Smorgasbord, but eventually new blood for Ocean City is needed!
Wouldn't a special event zone need to be clearly outlined and posted to newspapers for people to know that there are "special event zones"? Anything can instantly become a special event zone, and its not even jacking the price of the ticket up... its an additional penalty for the same speeding offense. Is this double jeopardy if its the same stop?
Joe,
That is exactly what the city or town of OC is trying to do... The mayor said it from his own mouth in an interview, where he stated exactly that he didn't want the car shows to continue in OC anymore but hoped they would still come to OC to spend money, laughable!!!! They want to appease the old farts who knowingly move to OC or any resort town or city, and then when they move here, they complain about it being a tourist area or that it is to noisy to to much parting even though these ass hats knew what the area was before they moved...
It is all a form of control, but you all let them do it, mainly by being pansies and complaining about what others do, so this is their fix to you pussies, to just nix the whole thing... You people make me sick, trying to ruin any fun anyone wants to have, and you wonder why kids can't play in the damn dirt anymore without getting threats of being locked up for endangering your kids... And you wonder why more and more kids, break the law and commit crimes!!! There is nothing left for them to do without you ass wholes complaining and then getting it stopped or shutdown... Then you complain about how the kids never have anything to do but be criminals!!!! Funny how that works right????
How did they come up with a 33 mph speed limit???
The ticket could have been $750 just for driving a green 83’ El Camino.
Good Bye special events OC. Good Bye Motor Sport events. Good Bye MONEY. There are cheaper places than OC and we get respect at these other places that want our money.
I would guess that if the various 'participants' behaved like adults (instead of overgrown children) and obeyed the law, this would be a non issue
Don't speed, and you won't have a problem.
9:26. Where do you see a 33mph limit. I see that ticket was for 41mph in a 30mph zone. 11 mph over the limit.
To 10:00 AM. Well said. I agree, your few words are a perfect solution.
HOLD ON......
If the punk idiots wouldn't burn rubber and make noises it wouldn't be an Issue
"Control" would be a better terminology than "push out" the car conventions.
When the first Bike Week began many years ago, the town viewed it with a cautious eye. Over just a few years, with control factors put in place, Ocean City's Bike Week has turned into the largest, most lucrative weekend, coning in just behind the "big three" holiday weekends.
(And, I might add, the most welcomed of the major conventions - with the exception coming from a handful of vacationers and locals that complain about the noise. Those people are in the minority.)
The message is simple to the car conventions: "Just obey the law." No more - no less.
Do that and I have no doubt that the town will welcome you and your cars at some point in time.
I'm sorry, Joe, but you are wrong on this one.
Over many years I've agreed with your opinions on many topics (disagreed on a few, too!), but that headline is a bit distorted.
First, consider that Ocean City is a business. It IS a business - being a safe, clean, resort town.
Now take that concept and small-it down to, say, a bar/restuarant business that had a large parking lot. (I think you can relate!)
One weekend at that business you have cars speeding through the lot, doing burn-outs in front of your establishment, drag-racing, drinking on the lot, throwing trash everywhere, and THEN not coming into your place to spend any money.
How long would you put up with that?
Knowing you, not very long.
THAT is what OC is going through with this crowd.
As the saying goes don't let the door hit you in the ass!! These kids don't spend money like the more mature Motorsports event participants. Hell truth be told all their money is tied up in their rice burners
agreed 11:19 - the message is clear - obey the law, act in a responsible manner, and you will be welcome - act otherwise, and you will not
Were tons of kids are walking around.
WAIT until one of these rice rockets loses control and jumps the sidewalk and kills people keep up the good work OCPD.
Good. These groups cause nothing but trouble every year. Yes their tourism dollars will go away but those will be replaced and then some by returning families who were scared off by this good for nothing rabble.
11:31, "more to come" means that I will be explaining a lot more down the road with my plans. However, I didn't think anyone would be thinking that I meant I'd be doing something out of our parking lot because that's not at all the case. What if I were to tell you there's be a CONTROLLED environment for let's say burn outs and even a drag strip for a quarter mile run. So yes, there'd be speeding but it would be completely controlled. As the owner of more then 15 cars, many of them classics, I couldn't agree more with people who dislike those Idiots who race through Ocean City and or do burn outs at will. I'm simply saying, IF you want to do stupid crap, do it in a place that's safe for everyone. Ocean City is NOT that place. So now you people can imagine where I'm heading with all this. Hundreds of acres and tons of fun. Be patient. We will build it and they will come.
2:06:
Not to rain on your parade...But that concept has been tried before.
I'm not saying that some new angle would not work - it very well may work if the creativity and marketing are on point.
Example: When the event was "held" at Whaleyville, an extremely small number of participants actually showed up at that location.
They had some vendors and stuff, but it was really no great interest to the majority of the car owners. (We're talking H20i.) They wanted to show their cars on the strip to the masses, which is understandable.
One thing for sure, a good event somewhere nearby on the outskirts of town would be good for OC cops.
When they issue a ticket for an infraction in town, they could also hand them a flyer showing where they could go crazy legally! At the moment, car owners have no other option but to be idiots on a public street.
I hope you can put something together. (Good luck with the insurance, though!)
By the way: Don't worry about the Cruzer's - 99% of them follow the rules. It's H20i that's the problem.
Sounds like a good idea but at the end of the day the lights of OC will still beckon.
It would do OC a world of good to get all clubs out. Those clubs are not family friendly any way whatsoever and are responsible for the trashy reputation that OC has.
The old cruisers don’t spend any money. Ask the business owners. The bikers spend the most.
If you cause problems, get out. I wonder why Jeep week doesnt have restrictions....hummmm...lets get real here. Oc will be just fine, and much better off without some of these events
