Funded by Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund
Maryland Lieutenant Governor Boyd K. Rutherford will tour a shoreline resiliency and restoration project atAssateague State Park. The innovative project seeks to enhance habitat, improve public access and reduce erosion through the use of nature-based structures, including boulders, cobble and clean sand, and native wetland vegetation.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently completed construction of the project, which consists of a series of 10 headland structures aimed at dissipating wave energy created during large storm events, and other climate and weather-based impacts. The project was funded by the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund.
