Another Salisbury Business Is Failing Miserably

Later today we'll deliver some images of contractors picketing CarMax in Salisbury and we'll deliver more details with those pictures. However, an inside source has confirmed that CarMax isn't doing anywhere near what they had hoped and obviously needed to keep their doors open. The Internet is killing their business, so I'm told.

With the information I'll be delivering shortly you'll understand why there's a very good chance they'll be so tied up in lawsuits they certainly won't be able to survive

Well, when you have a monopoly in the form of Pohanka, what do you expect... There are already 2 different major car dealers here in SBY, then you have the side dealers who sell used cars from mechanic shops... The market is saturated here, so why would anyone think they could do well???

Hate to hear it, they are much better to deal with. Car Store and Dealership row are nothing but salesperson follows you around the lot harassing the hell out of ya, When you find a vehicle you like the sales person can't tell you a damn thing about price and little about the vehicle. They have to get the finance person, then you have to haggle with him / her for an hour...the CarMax Facility was such a breath of fresh air! Hope they make it!!!!

In terms of car sales I can see that. But they are one of the few that buys cars from people and gives you cash on spot. My friend and I sued them and it was a good deal. i wouldn't buy a car from there though, I don't trust used cars.

man, i'll tell you what right now them car people man are shadier then an oak tree

Exactly!! Open a business we need! Salisbury is a horrible area for a new dealer that was poor planning on their end.

CarMax is just set up all wrong with all the guardrails keeping shoppers from driving through the lot looking for a car they may want without being chased down by a hungry salesman. There are miles of cars to look at in our 5 block strip of dealers.

At CarMax, you are forced to park, get out of your car and walk through the pack of sales associates before being able to look at the first car.

Sorry, but I can shop all by myself, and if you have something I'm interested in, I'll ask you about it.

I too am excited to have CM as a breath of fresh air alternative.

CarMax is a nation-wide company. Is only Salisbury doing poorly, or is it a a nation-wide problem?

Buying cars should be like buying anything else. They should have a price tag and you can buy it or leave it. Why should people have to argue in order to get the price something should be sold for? It's really ridiculous, that is why I avoid dealerships entirely. They all try to sell a product for more than it is really worth. That is just dishonest, I don't intend to fall for it.

Leasing really is looking more attractive than ever, especially if one can adhere to the terms of the lease. With unpredictable gas prices,I personally approve of being held to 12,000 miles per year and a trade in after 3 years. Some of us have long commutes and circumstances that don't make leasing a vehicle possible, but it works well for me.

I am currently considering getting a different car. I went to Carmax and could not ride through the parking lot. There is a locked gate. I did not get out of my car as I just wanted to ride through and see what was available, and if I saw something I was interested in, talk with a salesperson. From what I see from the road they have an extremely nice set up, but you have to park, go inside, and speak to a salesperson before you are allowed to browse or shop. I am getting older, and really do not want to do that so I am looking elsewhere. I just have a feeling that they will want to know everything about you before you can even look at their cars, which is a waste of both of our time if there isn't anything there I see I am interested in. I may still do business with them though if I like what I see. I am going to check it out online.

im a mechanic at Sherwood and I've noticed they do not work on ANYTHING. Everyone of their vehicles will come threw Sherwood. No wonder they make no money. The price you pay for your repairs is the exact same price you would pay here but they probably add a little on there so they make money.

Curiosity? Since when is user friendly to be misconstrued with a group of fast talkers? CarMax is holding true to form with that across the big ditch syndrome where if we take a fall because of mis-guided market studies then the locals do too.
This must be part of the new math all the school kids are failing. If I was one of the contractors involved I'd get the wheels moving to lock that job and property up before some Balto. Md. lawyer finds and files some obscure statute to rook these working folks out of their due. This is a common practice across the Bay that allows them to skate and do the same in another locale. Sherwood is the worst hands down.

I don't trust used cars either and I can't afford to go in debt for a new one. That is why I am stuck with my 17 year old truck I ordered from the factory.

"I just have a feeling that they will want to know everything about you ..."

That's so they can harvest all of you contact information and harass the shit out of you. Don't do it, don't do it or you will be sorry!

I agree the layout is odd. I have been to several car max's and this one is weird. However, I went there 2x to look at a car, walked thru the lobby, smiled and kept going. When I left, a gentleman asked I had any questions, I declined. I was not harassed or stalked at all. All of their cars are unlocked too, this is the best idea hands down! No need for a salesman etc. I would also think most people would scout out cars online, narrow it down and then go look. I have not ever driven threw a lot (I am older too).

Carmax has one price policy. There is no haggling with sales people/managers. They don'y harass you. You people will shoot anything new down before ever giving it a chance. That is why this area stuck in the vortex of swirling toilet water.

Wait a minute. Can't you blame this on the Mayor, like everything else you blame him for?

I watched a documentary on Car Max and they are nothing but crooks. Also try to find a local phone number for them you wont find it. I had to assist an employee with a title problem and asked for a local number to call him when I had the solution and the number he gave me was a corporate number or call center. Mind you I was helping them. Smh

3:49 Well? Jake and Jimmy are both rather impotent at mayoring!

Not all go “threw” Sherwood. They use the little repair shop on the corner of snow hill road and Vine.
And “threw” is the reason Sherwood don’t work on my vehicle.

Yeah...or the BOE.

No personal experiences. But read a solid research article recently about them and their other large national competitors.

Price posted is the price, although it may drop if the unit sits around too long, but that will be their decision.

As some have noted they will buy your car for cash, but the offer will be less than you could get selling yourself. No surprise.

They will ship a car, at your expense, from another location if it has color or features you prefer. If you don't like it, just pay the shipping fee.

Study found they make well above average profit on the cars they sell. Conclusion was they appeal to buyers who don't like the hassle or contest of bargaining and negotiating. In and out customers who are willing to pay more for what they view as more convenience.

Also, commenters to the article didn't feel from personal experiences that the higher price was fetching a better vehicle mechanically.

Just sharing, for what it's worth.

Good Lord Bob. do you even have a point in you "not fooled" rant? You are incoherent, man. You seem to have a problem following a thought.

We went there looking fro a replacement vehicle last year - they didn't have any that we wanted that had not been in an accident! On top of that they wanted so much info just to get started...no wonder the internet is killing them!

We ended up getting a certified pre-owned....at a dealership that we had been to before!

Shut her down and replace her with a Cracker Barrel.

Quick question, who buys a car in Salisbury? Since I don't and neither does my friends since the car prices here are overprice and you can get a better deal by driving 1 to 4 hours away. At least in my experience, since I got a car $5,000 cheaper than here when I bought a new car somewhere near Annapolis.
