Be Very Careful Of Local News Channels Promoting BS Car Maintenance Policies

Your local news channels are promoting, (selling) commercials that seem to be bogus. The above image is from one of these commercials in which I contacted local mechanics and even car dealerships in which this program suggests will participate with this policy, they do not.

I strongly suggest before you ever consider sending any kind of payment to these bogus companies you contact your dealer or mechanic and ask if they do in fact accept these policies.

Shame on these news stations for allowing such crap to be published as they are desperate for any kind of possible income.

Nobody turns down ad money, unless its for an illegal product. Media is not our nanny that shelters us from deceptive advertising. Who hasn't bought a car, just to get these ads in the mail for the next 10 years? It is up the the consumer to heed the legal words "Buyer Beware." Its your own fault if you don't like what you willingly bought.

10:19 I wholeheartedly agree with you but what gets me is these media groups act like paragons of virtue and the arbiters of morality when they really are just money whores.

10:19 AM Within a week of buying a new car this stuff started showing up in the mail. Dealerships have to be supplying them with the information.
Only 3 entities knew, MVA, Insurance and dealership.

Hey 1:39, did you finance the car or pay cash? Finance company would know also.

Why would you even consider buying this? My rule is if it does not come from the manufacture of the car (i.e., GM, Ford, Honda, etc), you are wasting money. I bought a brand new car from a ford dealer who shall remain nameless (located just a few miles north of the MD/DE state line), I wanted the extended warranty. Was told I was getting a Ford extended warranty. When the documentation came, it wasn't a Ford extended warranty. When I approached the dealer, I was basically told "Oh well, this is the only extended warranty we sell." So, tired to use the warranty AT the dealer, who sold me the car, and the warranty. They would find every excuse under the sun to not cover the repair under warranty. Figured if I was going to have to pay for the repair anyway, why go back to the dealer I bought the car from and pay their inflated prices.

Fast forward to 2017 when I bought my new Ridgeline (no longer live in 'da bury so I wasn't offered a "dealer extended warranty". Was actually offered a Honda extended warranty). The conversation didn't going something like this, it went exactly like this....

Sales Man: Can I interest you in an Extended Warranty?
Me: What do I need the extended warranty for?
Sales Man: In case the car breaks.
Me: If the car is going to break, I'm not buying the car.
Sales Man: The car is not going to break.
Me: Well, what do I need the extended warranty for then?
Sales Man: In case something happens to the car and it needs repaired.
Me: If the car needs repaired, I'm not buying it then!
Sales Man: The car won't need repaired!
Me: Well what the heck do I need the extended warranty for then!

Read the warranty you bought from the Ford Dealer. We bought a warranty from them also in 2010. In the fine print it states that if you do NOT use the warranty you will get a refund of a portion of what you paid. I think ours was a 7 year 100k warranty and we went over 100k in less than 7 years. They made us wait the 7 years before they would refund the money (hoping we would forget) we didn't and we managed to get the refund for the warranty since it was not used. Act quick you might have already gone over the allotted time to claim it.

@3:04AM - We did go back and get our refund. We got back a small percentage of what we bought the "extended Warranty" for. It was a rip off.
