A newlywed died on Sunday, two weeks after he was taken to the hospital because he was hit in the head with a softball.
Greg Fusco, from Palm Harbor, Florida, was struck in the left temple by a line drive while he was pitching during a softball tournament near Jacksonville on December 2, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The 37-year-old softball fanatic was first knocked out by the hit, but regained consciousness before an ambulance arrived.
Nevertheless he was airlifted to the University of Florida Health Jacksonville for what doctors first thought would be non-life-threatening injuries.

Bat technology has caused playing the game of softball to become more dangerous. The balls come off the new bats at extreme speeds. All for the sake of hitting the ball farther. Adding to the problem is that many cheating players have their bats shaved and/or rolled to speed up the break-in process, increasing the speed of the ball off the bat. Pitching in slow pitch softball in competitive leagues has become increasingly more dangerous. There are numerous documented cases of pitchers having been struck by batted balls, causing serious injury.
