Breaking News: President Trump said "Obamacare is imploding," but signups are nearly at last year's levels, even with the enrollment period cut in half

The Trump administration said Thursday that 8.8 million people had signed up for health insurance through the federal marketplace, only slightly lower than last year’s numbers when the open enrollment period was twice as long and heavily advertised.

Once the mandate goes away, it's dead.

People had to sign up or pay a penalty which was just as much as the premiums. Now that Trump ended the Slavery of Obama care numbers will drop drastically.

All of the really sick people are signing up before Obamacare implodes. I don't blame them.
People don't realize that Obamacare does not require underwriting for insurability. pre-existing conditions are welcomed. Most healthy people are NOT signing up, which is the main reason they were FORCED to get insurance- to pay for the really sick ones. It was a disaster from the start.
But, hey - "you have to pass it to see what's in it!"- - Nancy Pelosi 2009
God, I hope Obama and Hillary share a cell in Leavenworth.

Well, the IRS boot is on everybody's neck, but hey, that couldn't be an "incentive" to sign up, could it? And speaking of the IRS, they supplied the insurance people about my tax return and took away my insurance subsidy in October in the middle of a surgical procedure I was having and left me without even Obamacare or the ability to sign up for it until this renewal period.

The combination of health insurance and the IRS running the system is basically taking peoples' insurance away from them for 2 months of the year if their income changes from the last year. I had to pay BCBS $1.100 to cover one follow up visit in fear of losing all the coverage of my surgery which happened when I didn't know if I was covered or not, even after keeping up with the monthly bills.

The IRS does not need to be in charge of my health insurance. Time to get government out of that business and give it back to my insurance company. Things will get a lot cheaper without paying 15,000 federal employees who have no idea how health insurance works to run a health insurance program. n

I've heard BCBS and United have some experience in the matter...

Everybody knows they better get it while they can. After the mandate is gone, the exemption for pre-existing conditions will go too. Buy insurance after the mandate is gone, and you better not have any pre-existing conditions, because the insurance companies will charge much higher premiums for the insurance. Under ObamaCare, they weren't allowed to do that. No more waiting to be told your are seriously ill and then buying insurance. They better buy it now.
