Teachers Resign Due To Student Violence

Teachers in Pennsylvania’s capital city are asking for support after a series of violent altercations with students has led to multiple resignations.

The Harrisburg Education Association says at least 45 teachers resigned between July and October. Association President Jody Barksdale says more have resigned since then.

Speaking at a school board meeting Monday evening, first-grade teacher Amanda Sheaffer says she has been hit and kicked by her students.

Barksdale says the association wants a task force comprised of teachers, administrators and parents to help students who display violent behaviors.

No child left behind. We know who the troublemakers are, but we refuse to put them out. The truth is that the vast majority of students in Wicomico County are good decent kids that are eager to learn. It is about 10-15% of the students that cause 75% of the issues. We cannot suspend them more than a few times and we cannot remove them from the school system because they have a "right" to an education. Until we decide to remove the issue, we will continue to see the violence and failure in our system.

Wicomico teachers are now retiring as soon as possible. Gone are the days that teachers loved their jobs and wanted to stay.

The government does allow the discipline of non white students so disruption increases.

You don't expect this violence in school. But to hear from a 1st grade teacher with these things to deal with. To respond to the question, as a reader not dealing with this criminal behavior, I say go back to it was when I attended school. In the 12th grade, a teacher would deal with you and I don't have to say how. They got your attention and it was over, finished. They say the student has a "right" to an education. Doesn't the teacher have a "right" to expect to teach in a non-violate setting? The troubled one may have a "right" to an education, but is not getting one, plus keeping others from that same "right". I just don't get how we have over paid lawmakers telling us minions what to do.

You can thank the Obama administration libturds for this because they didn't want black students punished FACY.

Thank the past, now lets change the rules! Teachers are NOT babysitters and if local gov'ts allow this to continue - there won't be teachers in the future. Hell, the snowflakes want NOTHING to do with teaching so we must hold our local officials accountable NOW.

Sounds like a job for TRUMP (to mouth off about)

We simply refuse to face reality and expel violent thug students. Sorry, i am outta here soon too. We deal with insanity all day long and the community/BOE refuses to see or address the issue.

Home life plus ills in society.

Kids in first grade kicking their teacher? Really? Wow. That wouldn't have been tolerated in my day.

The BOE are unelected non-educators. Dr. Hanlin hasnt been in a classroom in 25 years. The Obama DOJ has dictated that we can no longer effectively punish black boys who, unfortunately, cause the majority of issues. Education should be again a privilege, not a right. Another issue is that this community vilifies and attacks us like we are some communist plot out to brainwash their children and that we are vastly overpaid. Yes, there are liberal teachers, but a majority in this county are moderate or conservatives who want to teach children skills to be successful. Obviously there are bad teachers (Parkside!). But if you ask your kids if they like their teachers, a large percent would say yes. The pay is decent for this area but it certainly isnt worth what I deal with everyday.

Let's address YOUR issue, CLEARLY,you do not care for black people or any other race other than WHITE. Let's not turn this to race lets. Why could it not be the fact that the kids of the new generation of all race and creed, simply lack discipline. A gooooood behind whipping. When you lack discipline you run wild and are disrespectful to parents, teachers, authority..etc.
CLEARLY, people who think like YOU are simply lost and behind times instead of always wanting to think black people are bad people and your kind refuses to accept us....keep in mind your kind brought us to this place called America. Even though you brought us over here as "property". Remember clearly, apparently some of your kind don't think like you...and remember your kind causes much more trouble than our kind....your kind has done a lot. So suck up the racism those times are over. It's a time to United. And the more you don't like us we will be here until the end get me see to it.

I was at Pemberton Elementary last week. I could not believe how awful the kids were in one of the classrooms I was in. I heard the “F” word three times. They showed no respect to the teacher. Unbelievable was teachers face today in the classroom.

Violence in kindergarten..we have been cussed, spit on and hit. Trying calling the parents but they don’t answer the phone or the phone has been disconnected. School nurses call parents to inform them that their child is sick and need to be picked up, get cussed, or the phone slammed in their ear. Parents don’t show for conferences.. The school’s hands are tied. Government wants parents to send their children to private schools and it’s working! In the beginning of my career I had students whose parents were professionals, they are gone. Parents don’t send them to private schools because the education is better, they send them to get an education without the violence in the classroom. Remember private schools can pick and choose students and dismiss students that cause problems.

The government does not allow discipline PERIOD. Black, white, purple, blue or green. The problem is parents aren't parents any more. The good foundation structure for family is GONE. COLOR has nothing to do with nothing, because it's white kids that need their behinds whipped too...as well as Asian, West Indian, Mexican, and every other race of bad kids that need their behind whipped.
So it falls to the lack of discipline kids do not have.
But then the government took parents rights away to discipline their kids how they seen fit. The government didn't birth any kids and shouldn't tell parents how to discipline their kids. With that said, those groups of kids who tell there parents to shut up and cuss at their parents are the same kids who go to school and now the school has to deal with the kids to the best they can, because they can't back hand a kid who is being blatantly disrespectful to the adults in the school. So its not color....it's parents teach kids respect and discipline.
