Local Leadership Drops the Ball...Who's to Blame?

By Thornton Crowe

As many of you are aware, Salisbury News reveals a lot of the corruption and ill-practice of local business, yet time and again, we see the local leaders do nothing to fix problems. It's not like you have no idea what's taking place in your own backyard.

Do you think Salisbury News is just revealing these issues for fun or to curry favor with some secret clandestine group? If you believe that puff n' stuff spin, then you are a part of the problem because you promote corruption by trying to hide it. You are equally complicit in this apparent malaise and no better than the leaders that ignore issues adversely affecting people in their community.

First, the whole situation with the Royal Farms' sanitation problem revealed a couple weeks ago. Where is the Health Department and why haven't they made a public statement to indicate any action taken against the convenience store chain? It's not like pictorial evidence hasn't been presented to prove the claims of sanitation violations, yet, we've heard nothing but crickets as to any official response to this issue.

Second, the situation the Fire Station 1 (former) and the fact the contingencies for the sale included a very specific vein the building was purposed for, yet once again, there is no public statement. No action whatsoever has been taken to quill the  public's perception of this egregious misuse of the building as it now houses a corporate entity not associated with local arts and entertainment -- clearly a violation of the original sale.

Lastly, why is the City of Salisbury's administration offices still located in the GOB when it was revealed several months ago, they have been in default of their rent and other operating expenditures for well over a decade? Yet, the Mayor and his staff still squat in a building they put forth nothing for short of the electric bill. Would John Cannon let you live in one of his rental homes if you weren't paying the rent? So why is Cannon and his compadres allowing the City to do something he wouldn't accept from his own tenants?

My fellow citizens, you are your own rainmakers. Hence, the real question here is:
 When will the storm begin?

It's obvious that this nation is corrupt from the top down excluding Trump
and his administration. For 8 years the democrats have taken this country to it's knees with the leadership of obama , this has had a domino effect down hill . We are now a nation of chicken $hit people who don't want to be involved . SO SAD !!

people don't bother because they feel like they have no choice, no say, no influence. no one listens and even after you speak up they do what they want and continue to screw us over. we are not versed on how to deal with this. we do not know where to start. speaking up at a council meeting is a waste of time. then what?

All the steam went out of the local movement when Joe Albero lost the election for mayor. It had momentum, and things were going to immediately change for the better. I, for one, believe the election was rigged. Worse, nobody challenged it, probably because all the appeals would have passed through the same party that rigged it. After that, who can blame the electorate for giving up? Liberals have been in power in SBY for a number of years, and they have created the same chaos that exists in every jurisdiction they control. There is no one, no rising star on the horizon, who will step up and take on the crime, the drugs, the all-powerful landlords, the lack of good jobs, the pandemonium in the schools, and all the other social ills that the all-powerful entrenched libs both thrive on and will do anything to keep as the status quo.

By you admission 1258 you let the good ole boys win instead of letting their cheating invigorate you to balance the scales. You’re a coward.

These comments prove you’re all too lazy to do anything about it. You would rather sit there and bitch about it instead of making a difference. You’re all paper lions. No chops. No balls. Sad.

Cannon would never let someone get away with not paying rent in his slums. He’s buddies with Day and covers for him constantly.

I WANT to see JOE ALBERO in the mayors office the very next GOROUND!!!!

6:50PM: I want to see YOU in line at voting day and everyone else who blames the situation on someone else. Rise up like we did for Trump!

The problem is that the actual voting base for Salisbury is made up predominantly of slum lords and their tenants. This small group of people control the vote, while a much larger community (including the taxpayers in Wicomico county) has to deal with the fallout. Salisbury should be annexed into the county once and for. Problem solved.

Must be all the same person commenting because they have, as usual, blamed everyone else for their/this problem.

What have you done to make a difference?

How true - they rant for change and do absolutely nothing but whine on a blog to bring it about.

this is the problem...only 12% voter turnout. look at the council results. get 300 votes your in! Boda only needed 84.

This is what happens when 80% of the citizens are NOT home owners.
