Cruz Opposes Efforts to ‘Sanitize History’ by Removing Confederate Monuments

Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) said at a Thursday press conference that it is a mistake to "sanitize history" by taking down Confederate monuments.

Cruz said those decisions on Confederate monuments should be local ones, but that in his view it's not beneficial, the Washington Examiner reports.

"I don't think it's beneficial to go through and try to sanitize history and try to erase the Civil War. We have a history that needs to be presented fairly, needs to be presented in context. It needs to clearly enunciate the evils of slavery," Cruz said.

Nobody is trying to erase the Civil War. The history will always remain in books, museums, private parks, etc.

What people are advocating is the removal of statues from public spaces of treasonous individuals who took up arms AGAINST the United States.

This is the biggest straw man argument ever. No one is sanitizing history. In fact, that is exactly what these monuments do; sanitize the history of men who fought to uphold a system that was 100% against the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution while committing atrocities against fellow man just to make a buck.

Bannon fired. Sorry Trump, getting rid of the racist won't help you. He's probably just glad they stopped talking about Russia

My mistake, I read this wrong. I thought it was a story on the ignorant comments Rubo made. I agree with Cruz. I should have read all of it.

2:20 What you are too near sighted to see is the books, museums, and parks will be next. They won't stop until it's all erased.

They should put all these things they are gathering up in a sort of Jurassic park where people can walk through and see the old parts of history and explain how and why things happened as they did. Take the entrance money and pay for the walls.

You, like so many others, have no clue of what or why that war was fought. Those men and women who fought that war, on both sides, had more honor and integrity than most people today.

IF anyone was trying to make a buck, it was the Union who wanted the South's money and what was a primary reason for the South's desire to secede from the Union which led to the start of the Civil War.

Today, the Dems, a bunch of annoying groups, are not showing ANY honor or integrity. They have itching ears and only want to hear what they want to hear regardless of fact or truths. The media is happy to meet that demand.

A lot of politicians also say and do whatever they think these groups want or want to hear. One in MS wants OUR president assassinated. She refuses to recant or apologize. The enemy is within us, the enemy is us.

Stop believing the propaganda the media is selling and the hate this woman and others spread.

The only white hooded sheets and Nazi flags I see are on television. When was the last time you seen either in your town?
