OCEAN CITY — Less than a year after opening, the future of a Berlin business is unclear this week due to a criminal investigation into the owner stealing meat from an Ocean City grocery store as well as failure to pay rent.
The Berlin Butcher Shop, which opened last September on William Street, is owned by Lisa Hall, a former Berlin council member and mayoral candidate.
Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) Public Information Officer Lindsay Richard confirmed Thursday a theft investigation was initiated on Saturday, Aug. 19. Employees at the Acme store on 94th Street informed police at approximately 1:38 p.m. a female suspect ordered a substantial amount of meat and did not pay for it on two consecutive days.
In recent months, Hall has been buying cases of various meat products from the Acme store and then selling it retail at her Berlin shop, which violates numerous health code rules that govern food-selling operations.

I was in there once and the guy at the counter was getting me ground beef. He thought it was nasty so he went me ground me fresh beef. But once the owner found out the threw out the meat and was making fresh. She flipped out. Needless to say I never saw him agian. She is a crook and should be in jail serving bad and stolen meat. At high prices also!

Well, Acme does have great meats. Dam fools in Berlin wouldn't know the difference. Maybe the Fire company should try this trick, be right up thier alley.
We got some ground beef from there a few times. The first and second time it was really good and lean. The next 2 times once you cooked it the burgers were really small and tasted different. I guess I know why now! After the last 2 times we never went back we could tell something changed and they were adding more fat to the burgers and we could tell it was not grass fed beef as she advertised.

If you want to make a living don't open a business in Berlin. They are all hobby businesses. The town is dead most of the time. I heard a few are going to close withing the next 2 yrs because they can't write off losses anymore because IRS is calling the business a hobby.
Get your ground beef from Chesapeake Bay Farms either in Berlin on Rt 50 at Logtown Rd or in Pocomoke
or
on Tues and Fri---Sat you can go up to Dover to the Amish market at Spence's Bazaar.
Go to Hastings Butcher Shop in Delmar. Best meat and prices around!

We have had a business in Berlin for over 40 years. The only complaint we hear is all the parking lots are full. Our "hobby" has been very good to us
Really tacky to go purchase meat from Acme, take it to your butcher shop, and sell it. The place deserves not to stay in business.

We would love to see y'all try Hastings Butcher Shop..been in business since 1972 and business is "boomin" to this day. We make our own sausage and sell beef, pork , chicken , goat , sheep and a big selection of frozen vegetables and pies. Our hours are Thursday and Friday 9-4:30 & Saturday 9-1 . We also do custom beef as in whole, halves and hind quarter that is cut , wrapped and frozen to your orders. Oh and you won't see any of our employees buying/taking meats from local grocery stores either. 👍
Maybe gee can get another bar to open there to give him another place to drink close to town hall
It's right down the road from me and it is awesome, great prices, specials on chicken too, love it!
