Think About It...

Makes ya kind of sick, doesn't it?

Found this so I thought I would add it.

Look what you could do in 1975 compared to what you can afford today. Cars have gone through the roof along with other prices. Right now, an average minimum wage earner (teens) have to work almost three hours (factor in taxes taken) just to go to the frigging movies at $12.00 a pop.

Here are those costs with inflation (in order, inflation values for 2015) and spaced shortly after the costs in 2015:

$16,758 $31,252
$9.16 an hour $8.25 an hour
$7,938 $18,943
$16,475 $42,419
$8.86 $8.17
$2.57 a gallon $2.38 a gallon
$0.57 $0.49
$2.84 for 5 lbs $3.25 for 5 lbs
$7.20 a gallon $3.49 a gallon
$4.89 a pound $4.91 a pound
$3.66 a dozen $2.08 a dozen
$1.22 a pound $1.43 a pound

Governments MUST find a way to ROLL BACK prices to what
they were back then > and STOP the prices rising

Wages Don't rise like that > so how the hell can anyone
live right in this USA or anywhere else in the world With
prices always Going Up > leaving Us Down ???

Stop Inflation (Ripping us Off) > Roll Back ALL Prices !!!

Houses and Cars now are Outragious and Unaffordable !!!

903 while I agree with the inflation/deflation continuum, government shouldn't 'fix' pricing at all. This is what FDR tried to do in some New Deal legislation that was promptly shut down by the Supreme Court. Government needs to get out of the marketplace and business altogether and let the market right itself. Supply & Demand does work if government doesn't intervene. Look at gas prices throughout Salisbury. Even with oil down in the mid-$40s per barrel, they still have gas jacked up to where it was when oil was $60+ a barrel. The gas prices are manipulated by government interference!

So a house was 4 times the average income. Median income in Wicomico county is $50k. 4 times that is $200k which will buy a nice house in Wicomico county. Car have become expensive because they are no longer a chassis and motor but rather a rolling computer with many government mandated safety features along with being built by union employees making over $100k per year.

Min wage is 4 times what it was and so the price of gas.

I don't think prices are that much different except that people didn't have monthly cell phone bill $100, cable bills $100+, internet $50, gym memberships, daily coffee at starbucks/DD, fast food lunches/dinners and $6-7 a pack cigarettes. Not to mention that every child has a cell phone/gaming system/TV etc. along with extracurricular activities that cost money for each sport/music/dance lesson. Didn't have that in 1975 either.

Should be ILLEGAL for those Oil Kings to Hold it off the
market as they DO > to create a False Shortage and make
prices go back up > as they Do

They Hold America Hostage and Extort us all > ruining our
lives..........Noone does a DAMN THING about it !!!

Anything we all need should Not be controlled by Private
hands....... Breach of Security for America !!!

Clearly, local gas stations are gouging people. Oil is around $45 a barrel right now. When it was $55 a couple months ago, at the pump it was $2.09/gallon. So what's the difference? Summertime? Hardly. Gouging is gouging, which should be illegal. Period.

930 quit being so hysterical and over dramatic. You sound like a schmuck. Cato oil company (I believe) is the one responsible for local gas. They gouge them, which leads to them gouging us. It's a vicious cycle.

926 one thing you're forgetting is Long Distance and phone service - landline - was through the roof back in the day. It would cost $5.00 to make a five minute long distance call. So while you yammer on about cellphones, think about how many long distance calls you make on that phone ever month and then what your phone bill was in 1975 (or 1983). I remember having very high long distance bills every month, which well exceeds the $90 I pay now for cellphone service which also includes unlimited data.

Designer coffee is on your own bad judgment. Anyone going to Starbucks after everything that's happened is unAmerican.

Gouging Laws needed > apparently there are NONE !!!
The same damn company charges a 10 cent a gal difference
at different locations...here in Salisbury
Prices jump up and down > at Will by these Crooked companys

They think we are all Stupid > and we ARE for letting them
get away with it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

951 there are gouging laws but nobody bothers to turn in local gas stations. Lazy masses. Everyone costing us a fortune on wages that diminish by the second.

I just spent the same for a refrigerator that I did for a decent new car in 1973. Minimum wage back then was $1.25.

I cannot believe what I am reading here. You people who are advocating for the government to roll back prices are probably so proud of yourselves to say that your Republicans, but in reality you are no better than the RINOs you complain about. It is NOT the role of government to meddle in the marketplace and change prices. If you want government intervention in prices and inflation, I hope you want government intervention in things like health care, because if you open that door, that's what your gonna get!

Prices are irrelevant. What matters is the amount of hours or minutes worked to afford the item.

Can not believe you all are complaining about the price of gas. 2.30 is not bad at all considering not long ago it was over 4.00!! Sure the US has reserves but why use them now when we are still getting foreign oil pretty cheap. Bet some of you complaining do not want drilling in Alaska where there is tons of oil!!
And btw, minimum wage jobs are for high school students and retirees and are not meant to be for those trying to support a family. Do not start a family unless you can support them on what you earn. and do not rely on government assistance! Do you all not realize if minimum wage goes up all the prices of goods will also?? You all do not realize how good you have it now.

Jim said...

OHHH and one more thing... if one gas station is charging .10 more per gallon for gas he is not gauging if you pay for it. And find it funny people will go way out of there way to save >10 to >15 per gallon. How big is the tank in your car?? 20 gallons at most. You really go out of your way to save 2.00?? Some people do not value time.

Try government documents. Then comment on facts.

If I had the money I have now back then, I'd be rich! That says it all right there.
