Maryland’s veteran manager of the state’s blue crab fishery was fired this week after a group of watermen complained to Gov. Larry Hogan about a catch regulation that they contend hurts their livelihood — but that scientists say is needed to ensure a sustainable harvest.
Brenda Davis, crab program manager for the Department of Natural Resources and a 28-year state employee, said she was informed Tuesday that her services were no longer needed.
In an interview Wednesday, Davis said Fisheries Director Dave Blazer gave no reason for her summary dismissal. But it came after Hogan met last week with about a dozen Dorchester County watermen who had been pressing Davis and the DNR for a change in a long-time regulation setting the minimum catchable size for crabs.

I can think of nothing more unless or unproductive than a 28 year state employee. I guarantee she only answered to her left wing ideology and cared nothing for the plight of the hard working watermen. This is the way it is with most of these government agencies that regulate business. They receive their check every Friday whether they work or not, recieve free health care and retirement all the while we toil away in the reality of making payrolls and dealing with their endless regulations. If any of these depts were audited the public would be amazed at what it cost the tax payers. I would venture to say there are more people on our dole regulating specific industries than are actually employed in said industry.

Just let them go out catch all the crabs and all the fish get er clean to the bone and then when they stop catching anything or enough to make a living they can go park their boats and let the bottoms rot out or push them up a gut and let them rot who will they blame then.
you get ripped off when you buy crabs now days because they use to sell them as no.1's or no. 2's now they are small medium and large it does not matter if they have meat in them or not big with no meat is not a no. 1 crab it's trash and you pay for a no. 1

This country was founded on the principles that free men could regulate themselves and the public has been taught by government schools that the government must regulate everything up to the size of your shoe laces.When it comes to fisheries & crabs the free market will regulate itself.If the crabs become scarce the watermen will move to another fishery and if there is too much of a product the price will drop in the market place such that it will be unprofitable to fish or crab.Most of the waterman are honorable people that work very hard but always get bad publicity from the MSM.You know the same crowd that glorifies black lives matter and cop killers. I believe that the real problems are people like the Chesapeake Bay foundation that line their pockets with tax payer and private contributions.I once spoke to director of this organization and asked him what they were going to do when the Bay was declared clean.He was speechless , so I answered the question for him. It will never be clean because the millions of dollars coming in would stop--kinda like the Clinton Foundation today.

Its all about choice. 1050 don't knock something that you have absolutely nothing about. You could have easily chosen to work for the local/state/federal gov't. Just like Davis could have had a job on the water. Choices and if you don't know about life as a civil servant - zip it!
Now go out and catch every single crab so eventually all are gone - then you can b*tch about that.

It always comes down to the same argument. Who is right, the people with facts/scientific method of analysis or those that believe that they will be rewarded or punished depending on whether they go to church on Sunday? The restrictions on rockfish over the last 20-25 years have resulted in increased numbers in the Bay.
