Beach Trash Can Art Proposed In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City officials discussed a proposal this week to implement painted trashcans on the town’s beaches.

In a Coastal Resources Legislative Committee (Green Team) meeting Wednesday, Councilman Tony DeLuca introduced the concept of artistic trashcans.

The idea, he said, is to beatify the beaches with decorative and scenic containers that will ultimately incentivize visitors to keep the beaches clean.

“I think it has application, and I wanted to bring it to the Green Team for a next step,” he said.

The inspiration for DeLuca’s proposal comes from Bobby and Nikki Freeman, Florida Realtors who began the non-profit program “Creative Cans in the Sand.”

It's a waste dispenser, why does everything need ART on it? Maybe look good while throwing at cops?

Why would you want to call attention to a trash can? I think it will look tacky.

I think that the beach should not be covered in over 800 cans every summer.
Do you folks realize the resources it takes to dump 800 trash cans in a single day every single day during the summer the manpower to fuel the cost of operating the machines everything.

A truly responsible Beach Go'er should take off anything that they bring on dispose of it properly back at your condo or your hotel room

yes 255pm and last week Joe had an article where OC wants to buy a brand new custom built trash truck to pick up those 800 beach cans. OC rationale is buy 1 new one to replace the other "3" which are 20+ years old. Replacing the "3" would cost $450k. OC already set aside approx. $235K to purchase a new truck.

By the by...there is no responsible Beach Go'er, we ALL have issues when it comes to responsibility - so don't GENERALIZE when pontificating!

Well why is thousands can visit assateague and not one trash can on that beach...

Sounds like plenty of responsibility on behalf of beach go'ers there

maybe they'll work on cleaning up some of the trash that pays regular visits to the boardwalk.
