I used to be a big supporter of the churches but all this nonsense being run in television promoting book sales and CD sales , exploiting children gor funding, and the worst of all "sowing seed" into TV evangelist. My choice now is solely to StJude's hospital.
It's not quite a charity, but I get my neighbours' children coats for Christmas every year. Their mid-30 aged parents don't seem to spend any money on them at all. They are at my house so much that they each have their own favourite plates and cups that they use in my cabinets. I have 4 kids and the neighbour's 3 so it is always busy around here. I can't see giving anywhere else.
Combat Wounded Coalition aka Wounded Wear. Founded by a Navy SEAL,Jason Redman, and located in Chesapeake, VA. They make altered clothing for wounded veteransand have several events each year to benefite the woundedd. No high payed CEOS, you know your money is used to help those that need it. I gave up,on wounded warrior, too much greed, waste and beaurocracy.
Myself. Welfare recipients make more than I do and I work Non Profits are lining their pockets and CEO's make millions If a friend needs help, I am there Otherwise you are a fool to buy in to the guilt they put upon you to give to those who really do not have a need they just want.
H.S.U.S, SPCA, Feed the Children, Sunday Breakfast Mission, Salvation Army, Make-a-Wish Foundation, St. Joseph's Indian School, a local Church, Halo and others I cannot think of. I have been Blessed in my life and feel the need to give back. I am by no means rich but feel it is the right thing to do.
Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity get cash and in-kind donations. Food Bank and several churches that feed the homeless get food. A couple of local charities get about 100-150 hours of my time for varied work.
2:01... I am so happy for you and those children. You both are receiving a special blessing one by giving and the other by receiving. That is what it is supposed to be all about.
Hey people , the United Way is now a scam , 3 cents on the dollar will help someone the rest is spent on lavish spending by the higher ups. Do your homework and research . Salvation Army is the one I prefer.
Salvation Army, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Disabled American Veterans. I donate to charity instead of giving unwanted and unneeded gifts.
Federal government, State of MD (income tax, vehicle registration and license fees), Wicomico County (land taxes), Verizon, DirecTV, Delmarva Power, Nationwide Insurance, Wells Fargo and a couple of more. Plus a man and his family need to eat, have clothing and occasionally visit a doctor or dentist. Anything left to donate?
Before you give, google the salary of head of the charity. United Way $1.2 million,American Cancer Society $2.1 million, St.Jude children's hospital $1.2 million, remember they have expenses, and large staffs that also get paid. That is a million or two of your money pays salarys before a nickel goes to where you want it. No charity should make more money than the leader of our country. Oh! By the way Salvation Army CEO makes $64,000 plus $34,000 housing allowance. Know where I give my money.

The Federal Government....unwillingly. They use it for a great cause though, to pay for everyone else who doesn't feel like getting a job.

I give 25 dollars per week to my church and some to the Salvation Army at Christmas. I donate my time also helping to feed the homeless in February.
