Motorcyclist Killed Instantly In Ocean City Accident

OCEAN CITY — An as-yet unidentified male motorcyclist lost his life in a horrific collision with a pick-up truck at the intersection of 28th Street and Philadelphia Avenue shortly after noon on Thursday.

At 12:08 p.m. on Thursday, a motorcycle traveling south on Coastal Highway at speeds estimated at around 100 mph collided with a Ford F-350 pick-up truck crossing Coastal Highway from west to east at 28th Street. The driver of the motorcycle was deceased upon the arrival of first responders. The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured during the collision. The names of the victim and the driver of the pick-up truck had not been released as of press time on Thursday afternoon.

The preliminary investigation revealed an allied law enforcement agency attempted to stop the motorcycle for a traffic violation just minutes before the collision. However, the motorcycle did not stop and fled from the allied law enforcement officer. Contrary to witness statements, the officer did not pursue the motorcycle after the failed attempt to stop it for a traffic violation and lost sight of the driver prior to the collision. It is not certain at this time where the initial attempt to stop the motorcycle occurred.

Coastal Highway was closed down in both directions immediately following the collision as the OCPD traffic safety unit, the patrol division and the criminal investigation division investigated the crash. Southbound Coastal Highway was reopened a short time later although investigators remained on the scene for hours on Thursday afternoon.

100 miles an hr? Thank god no one else was killed.

There's a video on YouTube that sort of shows there was a chase connected with this accident.

I have seen bikers go by me on major highways over 100 miles per hour and doing stupid maneuvers like riding on one wheel especially on 95 around DC and Baltimore, usually black. No I'm not prejudiced, just making an observation.

Fools ride bikes that fast, they deserve just what they get!

so tell me again how this is the cops fault???? It's the fault of the dumbass driving 100 mph in an urban setting. No excuse!!! Sorry to see him die, but that's what happens when you're dumb!

Contrary to witness statements...ok

Divine intervention on the part of the pickup truck. That pick up potentially saved the life of an innocent person from the evil doer who thought it would be cute to travel 100mph on Coastal Hwy.
Not so long ago someone traveling at a high rate slammed into the back of a car on Coastal Hwy and the little girl who was in the back is disabled for life.

Crotch Rocket Suicide.

(It might be a good name for a song.)

Morons get on 2 wheels and think they're invincible. Forgetting there's no protection around them as in a car. Ride like a fool and this is the end result.

one of the following: no license, not his bike, had drugs, not very bright, SPEED KILLS

I saw the video. The police did start to pursue him but they didn't look like they were in a huge hurry to catch him. No real reason to chase him. The tag readers leaving OC would have gotten him.

BUILT FORD TOUGH!!!

What does that have to do with any part of that story. Moron

There is a group on Rt. 54. they literally run you off the road. All crotch rockets. I think steel braid at 100 would do the job. My child was in my truck or I would have creamed the little jerk. I got half od the tag numbers they are at WaWa all the time. One of them was in the store bragging about out running the police a couple of months ago. Tick Tock Tick Tock. I do not believe in the system I will exact my revenge on these turds.

6:23 - no way a tag reader would have gotten his tag. Someone posted a pic of the bike pre-crash and the tag is laying flat up under the tail of the bike (under the seat.). Sad day for all involved....for the victim's family, the truck driver, the people who physically witnessed the aftermath and the LEOs. Prayers to all...I hope the young riders remember this when they are faced with certain choices.

These kids are punks with no respect for anyone. They get what they get. I have seen them riding wheelies on the by-pass. They are just dumb. Sorry for the loss but 100 mph is just asking for it. 10:15 give the cops the info and swear out a warrant. I understand your anger but they are dumb kids.

The only person to blame for this tragic death is the young man that was stupid enough to run from the police at 100mph. However, there was in fact a police chase. I listened to the whole thing on my police scanner. It all started on 56th street and the chasing unit was calling out the young mans each and every turn as he chased him. It was clear that at no time the police never lost sight of the motorcycle. With that said, I am at a loss as to why OCPD would lie about this. I guess one could question how safe it was to conduct a high speed chase for a simple traffic stop....especially with how heavy the traffic was yesterday.

2:10 Are you SURE it was a "chase"...meaning one officer traveling at a high rate of speed? The video I saw shows the LEO following him at a safe distance, not trying to overtake him. It is my understanding there were multiple units involved in radioing the young man's location. So yes, the police never lost sight of him because there were multiple police units involved after the initial attempt to stop. Your police scanner does not constitute an eyewitness. And it doesn't mean that OCPD lied.

10:15 I feel you. Take care of it yourself. They find a kid splattered on one these crotch rockets case closed. Not all of them but most of them have no respect for other they are reckless. The man driving the truck I hope he understands he did nothing wrong. Tough thing to live with. He may have saved others.

On Friday, there seemed to be a cop on every block parked in unmarked Kia's, SUV's and the like. All they had to do is narrate his moves from curbside and wait for the inevitable.

You can't outrun a radio, but kids still try once in a while.

There's simply nowhere to run/hide on OC. The faster you go, the smaller the pieces at the end.

I feel sorry for the family! Not the man on the bike! But, I really feel sorry his father, cause when the police called him - The Father said he already knew, Due to the internet!! How HORRIBLE is that?! So next time you want to take photos - please do not post them on internet, social media or anything - cause you never know , who knows who!! The whole thing is sad!! Feel bad the for driver of the truck as well!! Would you like to find out on social media bout one of your family members?! Again - FEEL bad for the family!!

I hope the family starts looking at the legal end of cops chasing people to their death the police in Ocean City are going to make the Manson family look like The Partridge Family as many killings they have caused goes to show you poorly trained Maybe they need to look up the ladder at the mayor start he should be charged for cover-ups

Ahh 7:40 My husband said the motorcycle guy flew by him 3 times cause he went up the street did a U-turn and back down and another U-turn and back up again. Cops are not at fault AT ALL!! I'm so tired of people putting the blame on others! If the biker had stopped in the beginning, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!! He actually put everyone on the road that day in jeopardy by the way he was driving!!!

Is it illegal for cops to chase someone? Please explain to me how this is the cops fault and how the family could possibly prevail in a lawsuit? That would be some BS.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like the woman's husband must be a cop saying he saw the guy do two u-turns that is totally false he must be a cop that is totally a lie and for cops to chase somebody in a resort town is dangerous I'm a retired Baltimore City we were told not to Chase and yes there is a lawsuit the cameras will say everything and the person that said it was BS they must have lived on the shore all their life there's a real world and real laws and if you have a case you want to take it to Federal Court don't play down here on State Court its corrupt

Anonymous said...

8:42 am - No, My husband is not a cop! He was in his company vehicle - going from one job to another when he saw the guy and yes he did make a couple of u-turns!!! I am ALL for the Police! So, Don't misquote me~ TY!!

Ummmmm. A lawsuit is kinda pointless and I'll tell you why. The kid on the bike was speeding excessively and recklessly. There is no way of knowing he wouldn't of still died or injured/kill an innocent person that day. Part of a police officer's job is to protect the public and enforce the laws. Plus to compare laws in Baltimore to Ocean City is almost like comparing apples to oranges.
