(CNSNews.com) - "Nobody should be surprised" that Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe issued an executive order restoring the voting rights of more than 200,000 convicted felons who have served their time, McAuliffe told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday.
"This is something I campaigned on and I've been working for the restoration rights for the last two years as governor," he said. "I have already restored the rights of 18,000 individuals, more than my past seven governors combined."
McAuliffe said "second chances matter," and "everybody ought to have a second chance" once they've completed probation or parole and they're back in society, working and paying taxes.

But Lincoln was torn by his action, while McAuliffe only celebrates.
Boy I can't wait until this Obama liberal era is over then these anti American fools will be called out after trump wins.
2:16,Amen to that comrade!
This was just a move to garner votes for Hitler-y. Real felon restored rights were ignored, they still can't hold several professional licenses to get back into the work force. If he was really concerned with them being able to be citizens again, he would have included this right, but no, he just wants them to vote for his pal.
People who consider themselves great aren't.
MD has already done this. Where was everyone then?
Lincoln really didnt want to free the slaves. He really wanted to send them all back. LOOK IT UP
In Virginia, a Felon can't hold a Cert. for being an EMT, or a Fire Fighter, a Lawn chemical license, a Electricians, plumbers, builders, contractors, license. The list goes on and on, yet they will now be able to vote. Looks to me like someone wants a cabinet position, or ambassadorship.
Leaked that McAuliffe is in the list of Clinton V.P. nominees. You think this is a coincidence???
I helped a person yesterday it made me feel like Lincoln. I'm so awesome and great.
