Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 2-22-16

On February 22, 2016 at about 1:20 p.m. the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office responded to Greenbackville Road near Ticktown Road in Stockton for a motor vehicle crash involving pedestrians.

Preliminary investigation indicated that two Worcester County Public Works Roads Division employees were working on the side of Greenbackville Road. A 2010 Kia traveling south on Greenbackville Road was attempting to pass around the work area. The operator swerved back into its lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The Kia drove through the work area and struck the two Worcester County Employees. One of the workers was pronounce deceased at the scene. The second worker was transported by the Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he is listed in critical condition. The driver of the Kia was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The names are being withheld pending family notification.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
