Earlier this month The Blaze reported a 12-year-old Pennsylvania girl was fatally shot by a constable serving her father an eviction notice. The girl’s father is now facing homicide charges.
Ciara Meyer, who was home from school sick that day, was standing behind her father when the constable shot him in the arm. Constable Clark Steele fired his weapon only after Ciara’s father, Donald Meyer pointed a loaded gun at Steele.
Meyer, 57, was charged Thursday for homicide and involuntary manslaughter in the killing of his daughter.
Perry County District Attorney Andrew Bender said Thursday that Meyer’s “extremely reckless actions” in pointing a rifle at Steele’s chest led to his daughter’s death.
The prosecutor said Steele shot at Meyer in self-defense and will not face charges. Meyer was already facing aggravated assault and other charges in the case when he was charged Thursday.

well somebody has to be held accountable, it certainly will never be cops
Did the cop not see the girl standing there?
Ok...as much as if like to blame the constable..I cant. You absolutely do not point a gun at a police officer as a threat. That's just stupid at an Olympic level.
It is stupid for the father to point a gun at the constable. A gun is a tool of last resort. The constable and anyone who uses or fires a gun is responsible for every bullet that is fired. He will die with the image of that little girl's face in his mind. No one wins in this story.
I can blame him. He shot the WRONG PERSON.
If I shoot at a robber in my house, who is pointing a gun at me, but miss him and instead, shoot my neighbor in his front yard, does the State's Attorney say "hey, you were TRYING to shoot the right guy"? No.
I likely go to prison. After the State bankrupts me.
With great authority comes great responsibility. Better said, equal justice under the law.
No one with a badge should get to shoot indiscriminately, kill or wound whomever happens to be in the vicinity and then say "I AM THE POLICE!! I WAS AFRAID!!". I don't think that's an excuse for shooting innocent bystanders. Of course, I also think the law should be applied equally, under all circumstance, to all people, even the ones who wear the "I can do anything I want" badge.
Keep cheering.
This is a damn disagree to the civilized society. The things these so called up holders of the Law. The get away with murder all the time.
Shot went through the fathers arm and hit the daughter behind him.He had no view of the daughter behind her father.Mother sides with the constable.
802 let's say you were the police and he pointed a Rifel to your chest. What would you do?
802 how do you know? Your story is fantasy make believe ending! You get angered over a story you created! I'm always amazed at your vivid imagation! Let's stick to real life. Thank you.
5:27-Just don't suggest that to the Olympic Committee. They have enough ridiculous sports already.
Mentally ill person purposely keeps his daughter out of school knowing the police are coming. Hides her behind him and pulls a gun on the police?! So sad.
Ignore Imclain when police are involved. His hatred and bias against officers does not allow him to think clearly.
10:01...You dummy.
I've NEVER said I hated the police. NEVER.
Every society NEEDS the police.
My issue is with the militaristic, shoot anything and everything that scares you attitude of today's police force.
To answer the question, "what would I do?"....Firstly, I'm not intimidated by someone with a gun and it does not scare me.. 99% of people (maybe more) absolutely do not want to get in a gunfight with police --- they always win --- or anyone else, for that matter. I would stay calm (and yes, I've had an angry man point a shotgun at me and tell me he was going to kill me) and (depending upon the state of agitation of the gun holder) either try to reason with him (again, most people do NOT want to shoot a cop, for ANY reason) or leave and wait for back up.
The situation calls for DEESCALATION, not murder, especially of an innocent person.
That's the way the police USE to handle these things, back in the day.
Now, we have combat veterans (they never have PTSD, right?), used to clearing houses and taking no crap from the locals, playing tough guy with a short temper on anyone with even a slight attitude. Sorry, buddy, but that ain't the way it should be done.
For the record, I KNOW a few police officers, all the way up to the federal level. They are pretty nice guys and I would give my life to help them if they were in trouble.
But the cops who think they can kill anytime they are "afraid", well, maybe they should consider another, less dangerous job.
Keep cheering.
I think the first thing a cop should do when he sees a gun is find cover. He mist have seen the gun before he had it drawn on him. These cops are playing a game of quick draw rather than being cool calm and collected. A stand off with the aid of a negotiator may have saved that kids life, instead, political correctness is taking yet another turn in allowing officers the assumed right to shoot.
Unknown, it's what they're taught. They aren't taught negotiation, just fight and shoot. That's why there's such a debate on the issue of 'cop training'.
Your in the land of make believe. Your comment is always based on a opinion of a fantasy you create. Pointless to discuss anything with you because your a crazy person.
Your making assumptions of what he saw and didn't see based on a two paragraph article. You have no idea his thoughts or anything that took place.... I assume your a over weight retired older salesmen but you could be a inmate with access to a computer!
136 you have never been to a police acadamy your statement is untrue. I don't know of any debates on police training. Diversity and active shooter debates maybe. Unless your referring to Al Sharpton he doesn't count.
