Berlin, MD –Assateague Island National Seashore will begin storm preparations and a systematic park closure in anticipation of Hurricane Joaquin to ensure the safety of park visitors, park employees and protection of park infrastructure. The following closures will go into effect in the Maryland district of Assateague Island National Seashore:
· The Over-Sand Vehicle route will close Wednesday, September 30 at 8:00 pm and is anticipated to remain closed until the storm has passed.
· All national seashore campgrounds will close Friday, October 2 at 12:00 pm. Campers with existing reservations will be notified by the reservation company, recreation.gov.
· The Assateague Island National Seashore Visitor Center will be closed Sunday, October 4 until the storm passes.
· An island-wide closure is anticipated to occur Sunday, October 4 at 12:00 pm.

All closures are subject to change as we follow the path of Hurricane Joaquin. Powerful hurricanes and coastal storms over the years have taught hard lessons at Assateague Island National Seashore and other coastal areas. Pre-storm preparation and planning for the protection of visitors, staff and island resources is key. Please check our websitewww.nps.gov/asis, Facebook, and Twitter for updates.

Seagull Century is cancelled:
Sea Gull Century Canceled for Saturday, October 3
10/1/2015 1:41:00 PM
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Sea Gull Century bike ride has been canceled for Saturday, October 3.
“The safety of our 6,000 cyclists, some 200 volunteers, support staff, spectators and others is our top priority,” said Amy Waters, Century coordinator.
“We have been in close communication with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency regarding two potential weather events in our region. The National Weather Service currently has issued a flood watch for portions of Delmarva through Saturday evening, with 4-7 inches of rain forecasted. Winds up to 35 mph are predicted on Saturday. There also is a hazardous weather outlook for the mid-Atlantic for the possible impacts of Hurricane Joaquin, including additional flooding, heavy rain and wind. Travel to and from Maryland’s Eastern Shore may be treacherous.
[Related Links]“The Century relies annually upon many regional collaborations to help ensure the safety of riders and others. These partners include police agencies, rest stop operations, and more. Given the possibility of weather-related emergencies and the preparations that are being made throughout the region, the demands upon these partners are high. Both the state and national parks on Assateague Island, one of our most popular rest stops, are closing in advance of the storm, for example. We do not want to further burden our partners.
“We sincerely regret this inconvenience for our riders.”
All 2015 registrants will receive an email with additional information. The date for next year’s Century is October 8, 2016.

RE: the SAT closing for this Saturday: the SAT closing website doesn't show it, neither do the TV stations, nor does College Board show it. Needed to double check because the test was $55 so finally got the school directly and they confirmed it.

Thanks.
