Mother of 3-year-old son found dead in swing indicted

LA PLATA, Md. (AP/WJLA) — A Maryland woman who was found pushing her dead son in a playground swing earlier this year has been indicted and charged with manslaughter and child abuse, authorities announced Monday.

The Charles County State's Attorney's Office announced that Romechia Simms, 24, was arrested Saturday and faced an arraignment Monday. The indictment charges her with manslaughter, first-degree child abuse and child neglect.

Simms placed her 3-year-old son, Ji'Aire Donnell Lee, on the swing the morning of May 20 and he stayed there until he was found dead two days later, county sheriff's office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said in May. The mother was still pushing the swing. Authorities say the child had been in the swing for approximately 40 hours and had been dead for eight to 10 hours by the time police arrived.

What can you say but a prayer for the child. WOW.

Naming him "Ji'Aire" was child abuse.

I'm still out on this one. Earlier reports on this say that the neighbors of the playground finally called officials after noticing she had been pushing the child in the same swing since for at least the day before. It's been reported since that it was for 40 hours. I challenge anyone to stand there and do the same thing for 40 hours. Try and do anything- push a swing, read a book, watch the paint peeling off the walls, etc-for 40 hours. It's not normal and seems to show a significant degree of detachment from reality and a complete loss of a sense of time. The loss of time plays into a diagnosis of bi polar disorder.

327, I was married to a woman who could have done this for at least three days. I am now divorced with custody of three and we are all very happy, and still alive, thank God!

Moral of the story: that "thousand yard stare" is reason to run like hell and don't look back.

Where was the dad? No other relatives to step up and help?
