Idaho City Tells Pastors To Marry Gays Or Go To Jail

Coeur d‘Alene, Idaho, city officials have laid down the law to Christian pastors within their community, telling them bluntly via an ordinance that if they refuse to marry homosexuals, they will face jail time and fines.

The dictate comes on the heels of a legal battle with Donald and Evelyn Knapp, ordained ministers who own the Hitching Post wedding chapel in the city, but who oppose gay marriage, The Daily Caller reported.

A federal judge recently ruled that the state’s ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional, while the city of Coeur d‘Alene has an ordinance that prevents discrimination based on sexual preference.

The Supreme Court’s recent refusal to take on gay rights’ appeals from five states has opened the doors for same-sex marriages to go forth.

The Knapps were just asked by a gay couple to perform their wedding ceremony, The Daily Caller reported.

“On Friday, a same-sex couple asked to be married by the Knapps, and the Knapps politely declined,” The Daily Signal reported. “The Knapps now face a 180-day jail term and a $1,000 fine for each day they decline to celebrate the same-sex wedding.”

Didn't take long for that expected consequence!

This is the main part that legalizes discrimination against people of faith.....

Conservatives must vote these liberals out!

And you all say it isn't about taking out Christians...

No. Pastors do not have to 'Marry anyone'. It's written in the Constitution as the first amendment. And it reads - "Congress shall pass no law respecting religion". You see Freedom of Speech IS our right and practicing the religion of our conscience is our right as well.

so why are they members of the church if they don't abide by the doctrine. why are they asking them to marry them?this is absurd!!!! Let the revolution begin

1:21 A right you will have to fight for now.

will the demand the same from a mosque?

1:44 There will be a fight. Obviously it looks like it might have to be physical. Christians and any others in America who believe in the Constitution are getting nowhere with the courts.

2:33 - that's cuz the courts are stacked with liberal atheists - that don't care about religion - just their own needs!

I am a born again Christian. With what Idaho has done that means I can get married in a mosque, if I choose. No a thing the muslims could say or do, right?

1:21....LOL...YOU still think "we, the people" have any RIGHTS !???
Current events update:
After 9-11, you people CHEERED as your "leaders" said they HAD to have warrantless searches, warrantless wiretapping, secret charges, secret trials, secret prisons, confiscation of property and cash without trial, pervasive surveillance at all levels, including ALL electronic communications of ALL (99.99999% INNOCENT of ANY crime, Nazi roadblocks and "checkpoints" by armed agents of the government, jailing of reporters, open defiance of the law by government officials and all sorts of things that would, uh, surprise Thomas Jefferson. Does "shall not infringe...." ring a bell?
Now, someone is upset that their Christian values will be offended?
Really??
You couldn't stop cheering before and NOW you want someone to come to your rescue?
Didn't speak up when OTHER people were getting crushed under the heels of uncontrolled power, but NOW you think it's time someone stood up??
Cue the hilarious laughter......

Christians don't take instructions from government.

Government does not apply to Christians.

So the authorities in the U.S., States, Counties and Cities are forcing churches/pastors, etc. to marry Homo's or go to jail.

So what's next? These same authorities will force the military/police to take our guns. You think I am kidding? Then you need a rude awakening. It's coming and you need to mark my words.

6:23 Trying to be the next Memories Pizza, they made out like they won the lottery.

If they arrest all the pastors they still won't get married.

Why would ANYONE want to ask for a service or product from someone who they KNOW doesn't like them or approve of their "lifestyle"?
Unless they are looking for trouble or drama.
The wheels are turning. Fast.
Think --- the Supreme Court has told "we, the people" that they MUST (under penalty of law) BUY SOMETHING they may or may not need or want.
Now, they tell "we, the people" that we MUST repudiate our own beliefs and convictions in order to satisfy the wants and needs of those who have no desire at all to respect anyone else's beliefs.
Comply, or we will jail you and bankrupt you.
That is the liberal viewpoint of "tolerance".
R E V O L U T I O N.
Coming to a town near you, whether you like it or not.
BETTER BE READY.

I used to be a Mormon. I was fooled then. Fact is plural marriage ended in 100 AD or so. So common law meant one man and one woman for more than 1500 years when Joseph Smith called his adultery plural marriage. He married married women who also stayed married to their husbands. Pure evil was this Joseph Smith.

So this is nothing at all like Gay Marriage. The Constitution did not make plural marriage illegal but the laws passed did. It was never legal when the Mormons practiced it except for possibly three years when who owned Utah was questionable and they sort of owned themselves. Plural marriage was illegal in Mexico where Mitt's grand father practiced it as well. They did not enforce it hardly ever but it was illegal.

The SCOTUS made common law illegal in this decision. They made American Law now to be based on whole cloth. They made themselves the 9 kings of America.

Put them through a counseling program... create 2 different programs with a fee ... make the Gay one exhaustive ..then tell them they failed and cannot be married ..keep the fee while applying the fee towards the cost of the other weddings ... I want to know how Harvard can deny anyone enrollment at their University with this same line of Justice?

Need I type the First Amendment again? These judges need to learn how to read LAW.

I'd be rather perturbed if anyone told me I had to marry a gay woman.

My husband might be somewhat amused, though.
