The cards have caused outrage and alarm among political commentators, many of whom claim the 60-year-old's illness is a fraud and clamor for attention.
Abu-Jamal, who shot Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in cold blood in 1981, was taken to hospital on April 2 after collapsing in the bathroom of the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy.
But this week he was delivered two batches of letters - one from a third grade class in Orange, New Jersey and another from high school students in the Philadelphia Student Union.

Teacher Suspended for Having 3rd-Graders Write 'Get Well' Letters to Cop Killer
A New Jersey teacher has been suspended after she had her third-grade students write “get well” letters to convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Abu-Jamal, who was convicted in the 1981 shooting death of Philadelphia officer Daniel Faulkner, recently fell ill while in prison.
Orange Public Schools officials “vehemently deny” that they knew Marylin Zuniga asked her students to write these letters.

It isn't a coincidence that two separate, unrelated public school classroom teachers decided to suddenly send a violent, racist murderer get well cards.
Appallingly, there is a website entitled Educators for Mumia Abu Jamal, or EMAJ, run by none other than the hate-filled Johanna Fernandez of Baruch College. From this forum she disseminates virulently racist rhetoric to "educators" of her persuasion. A convenient tool with which to "suggest" their sordid cause be furthered by having schoolchildren write "get well cards" to a notoriously unrepentant killer.
Both teachers should be fired and their teaching licenses revoked for this inexcusable attempt to indoctrinate children into glorifying a particularly vile criminal.
Mr. Jamal is up to his old tricks again, this time playing up his diabetes to get time out of prison, into the relative comfort of a hospital. He's learned that all he has to do, is manipulate his diet to provoke diabetic symptoms, producing dramatic blood sugar levels and a self inflicted health crisis. Which is conveniently blamed on the injustice of his incarceration, and the institutional "racism" he claims keeps him there.
Pathetic. I'd send him a "drop dead" card, but he isn't worth the stamp let alone my time to write it.
