Salary lag front-and-center issue for ‘16 school budget

By increasing their commute, Worcester County teachers could earn more money in neighboring counties immediately.

That was the reality presented by Superintendent Dr. Jerry Wilson during the Board of Education’s budget hearing on Tuesday.

Board of Education employees in the county are on a step program for raises. With each year of experience or certification earned, the employees should move one step annually. Employees starting with more advanced degrees move along a different step scale.

Just a reminder that the top 10 administrators pull in almost $2.5M annually. I see no mention of the budget sleight-of-hand pulled last year when the WorCoComms approved a budget that included increased starting salaries but the Bd of Ed either spent it elsewhere or it was included in the $$ they "found" - look it up!

Worcester County spends more per student than any other county im MD and our best high school is rank 31st in the state. Where is the money going. Too much administration?

Raises every month? Get more money for moving farther away? Wtf?

Show me one teacher that moved to a neighboring county due to salary. In addition. a large number of worcester county teachers already live in the other counties.

Teachers should not be complaining about increments. They have received increments every year since 1968, except the 3 years noted

Lets not be greedy. Many others have not received a wage increase in years.
