So far we've learned they're serving apple slices, juices, MILK, chips and mostly pre packaged food and drinks.
From elementary to middle schools, (so far) kids questioning the dates have been told, they're still good. It seems they simply serve what's on hand.
Now that this has been EXPOSED, I'm confident they'll throw everything away that is out dated. However, have your kids keep a close eye on this and IF they happen to bring something home out of date, take a picture and send it to us right away.

Don't tell me they are now buying from those "get rid of" food brokers that dispose of what does not sell by the deadline in normal channels - if so, that's disgusting.
I've seen Freddy eating in local restaurants, not at the school cafeterias.
I asked my daughter about this. She told me that she gets out dated items a lot. When she takes it back they tell her she's already bought it and has to keep it. Unless its milk she said. Bad thing is she is in second grade and didn't know better. Way to take advantage!
How about calling the health department and making a formal conplaint??
Doesn't the Health Dept. do inspections at school cafeterias just like the restaurant kitchen ones? If not, they should.

Best by dates that have passed do not mean that the food is bad or expired. Milk is a no brainer. Who doesn't smell the milk before drinking it?

I wouldn't blame Cloverland, I'd place blame on the schools for storing the milk that didn't sell that day so they put they use the first in, first out method of inventory controls. I told mine to bring home any packaging for anything they get that is out of date because they are not allowed to take food back to the classroom in elementary school.

Parents need to teach their children to be smart shoppers, from an early age. Show them how to find the sell-by date on food, and why it's important. Once they know the grownups at school are trying to foist off crap on them, believe me, they'll be eagle-eyed little consumers.
It's a teachable moment, and problem solved.
They do the same at the jail, the inmates get fed moldy bread, outdated milk.

The UUFS service that Pam, Diana and I presented at today, was a wonderful experience. The music was beautiful and the audience responded with great questions and comments about what we do.
I was also happily surprised that UUFS has set up a drop off box, near the sanctuary entrance, where members and friends can place food, clothing and toiletries for us to use in our work.
I also want to thank UUFS members and friends who made plate donations today. The plate donations were designated for Clint's Cupboard and we will use the proceeds to purchase Tupperware tubs, so we can store clothing and food better than in the trash bags we currently use.
Blessings keep coming our way and we keep finding more people who want to help in our work.

Really? As if prisoners deserve top rate anything. They don't need milk or bread. If they want good products they should stay out of jail.
Contact the local extension and talk to someone with the safe handling of food and expired food. Or, even research the USDA site regarding this issue. The date is a suggestion for the most part and food is still good with regards the date printed. For example, the milk is good at least five days past the suggested best used by date. Bread is still good if past the date. The best source of spoilage is your eyes and nose. Of course, anyone would want the freshest possible.
This place is scary. From thugs to cops to the political leaders! I'd run far away from here. Or at least be like Joe and get my ass to Delmar. Delaware side!

Your right they are. But how can you explain that to kids in first grade or lower? Its either safe or not to those youngsters.

There is no need for the inmate, who is being housed & clothed & heated/cooled with taxpayer's money, to eat better than senior citizens living on social security. No more stupid than you. I guess you are one of those stuck in that revolving door called recidivism. You want fresh food served 3 times daily. The military is only guaranteed 1 hot meal a day. Why should any law breaking criminal serving time for violating the law eat better than those that serve our country? Go hug a thug if it makes you feel better, send him or her some money for their commissary so they can get fresh snacks.
If WCDC was turned private the inmates would get a whole lot better diet. I was in a private correctional facility and we got menu's each day to pick and choose what we wanted to have for our meals. (Kind of like they have you do in the hospital), we also had a great library with current books, newspapers, movies on DVD's and DVD players in the pod. Inmates have constitutional rights, even if you are locked up. We are locked away from our families and friends, so it is a punishment.
Convicted felons lose their rights. Why should they be treated better than law abiding citizens that work every day for a living? Criminals be damned. Live within the law or rot in jail.
AN issue with the milk is the free breakfasts in the classroom. The milk sets out for an extended period of time without refrigeration and then is put back in the fridge which causes unstable product. It is absolutely on the schools not on cloverland dairy. Cloverland drivers test the milk temps upon delivery to verify they are at the optimal temp.
