In recent months, Facebook has been quietly holding talks with at least half a dozen media companies about hosting their content inside Facebook rather than making users tap a link to go to an external site.
The new proposal by Facebook carries another risk for publishers: the loss of valuable consumer data. When readers click on an article, an array of tracking tools allow the host site to collect valuable information on who they are, how often they visit and what else they have done on the web.
And if Facebook pushes beyond the experimental stage and makes content hosted on the site commonplace, those who do not participate in the program could lose substantial traffic — a factor that has played into the thinking of some publishers. Their articles might load more slowly than their competitors’, and over time readers might avoid those sites.

Its a simple solution to an ongoing problem. Say you see a facebook request from someone you might know from your childhood, a simple name like john smith or steve Johnson. Most people don't accept these requests but some do. Within a day John Smith links a news feed on his website saying "135 dead in shootout between police and Aryan nation". This is enough to intrigue people to read on, so they click the link. That link installs various virus and spyware into your computer, that can simply record keystrokes or shut down your computer.
What facebook is trying to do is limit such activity by making the news article available right to facebook with no external links. This wont stop attempts but much like emails with attachments people will start to be more cautious.
There is also a phenomenon recently where fake news stories spread like the plague on facebook. Facebook hoaxes have become so popular the last 6 months they hope that this change can counter some of this hoaxes.
