Harris has been outspoken advocate for this change
WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., a Navy veteran and physician who worked in both the military and veteran health systems, applauded the Department of Veterans’ Affairs announcement that will change the formula to determine eligibility in the Veterans Choice Program. Congressman Harris has repeatedly urged the VA to reconsider how they measure the 40 mile distance necessary to take part in the Veterans Choice Program and seek care from a private medical facility. The VA will now determine eligibility based on driving distance, instead of a straight line distance.
“Our veterans put their lives on the line for our nation; they deserve the best possible care, whether they seek it at the VA or a private facility. The change in policy for the Veterans Choice Program is great news for our veterans who have suffered long distances to get routine care. Many veterans will now have a choice in their health care,” said Congressman Harris.
The Veterans Choice Program was created by the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA), which was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President last August. Many of the veterans in Maryland’s First District that live on the Eastern Shore are separated from VA facilities in Baltimore by the Chesapeake Bay and must travel long distances to receive care.
“During my training, I worked in a VA hospital and I understand the bureaucratic mess that has done a disservice to those who have fought to protect our freedom. I will continue to fight for our veterans to ensure that they receive the care they need and deserve,” added Congressman Harris.
Congressman Harris has been a vocal leader in the fight to reform the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Chuck Cook - It's a reference to something that happened a while back. It's a nod to the idea that Harris is doing nothing in DC for the residents of the 1st District.

You can bet Jim Ireton has his eye on someone elses seat right now. Especially how many times he has gone to Annapolis to run his mouth. He even has a picture of him in front of the Maryland State House.

I do not always appreciate the votes or representation of Congressman Harris...but I really do not appreciate the disgraced former Wicomico Republican Club President "liking" anything with Cook and Ireton.
Wellfonder-please do us all a big favor and change party affiliations. Your actions disgust those of us who realize that we are in a fight for our lives while you think this is just some kind of a game. You worship at the alter of bipartisanship so let me interpret that for you-

I was just going to comment about that and you beat me to it.
That tub of lard represented the Wicomico County Republican Club as their president and she is constantly loving on Jim Ireton and he hates Republicans more than he hates women. Jackie you are a trader and you need to go away. How did your liberal ass end up over here anyway. Anyone that sucks up to the likes of Jim Ireton is the enemy and I don't want them(YOU) on my team. You can't be trusted and you are probably part of the reason McDermott lost the election. Now you keep sucking up to Jim Ireton and your "LIKE's" on his comments and attacks are an attack by you. You being on Jim Ireton's Facebook page "Liking" an attack on our Republican Congressman Andy Harris proves you are not conservative. You are in the wrong Party and you need to stay away from our meetings and our elections.
Jackie Welfonder was on Jim Ireton's FB page last week admitting that Muir Boda was a Libertarian. With her knowingly admitting Muir Boda was a Libertarian and not a Republican means she betrayed the Club and the Party allowing them to fund his campaign for a county council seat. Funding could have gone to other candidates, but she persuaded funding going to the deceiver, the betrayer, the liar. Muir Boda used the Republican Club to try to win an election because of his numerous unsuccessful bids as a third party candidate. One that is more liberal than conservative. They both need to leave the club and the party. At the next meeting someone should bring her up on charges if that is possible. Theft is what I am thinking.

I so much approve of this comment. Thank you so much. Now I wish I knew who you were. We are on the same page, but your thought process is so eloquent.
And we have Jamie Heater, Ms. Third Friday attacking our Republican Congressman as well. When you have people that are so called public servants, the most disrespectful thing you can do is attack another public servant publicly. Jamie Heater you are one fat Liberal slob and I will make sure I don't support anything about downtown Salisbury. Especially the gay bars. You pig.
This still helps no one in the Salisbury area, it is 38 miles from parsonsburg to the va. So if the only place you can be seen is in Baltimore the va counts distance to the clinic, even if the clinic has no one to see you for your problem. This needs to be change for where you have to see your doctor, my oncologist is in Baltimore not at the clinic.
Jackie Wellfonder thinks she is Chuck Cook, a star maker. She believes to the depths of her soul that she got Anderton, Culver, Adams, Kilmer and the rest of the Eastern Shore Delegation elected. Her contribution to their campaigns was sitting in the Republican Club headquarters grazing on whatever free food was available and occasionally driving Travis around while he walked neighborhoods dropping literature. She should be ashamed of herself for charging Adams and Culver for work on their campaigns. She hopes for an appointment to a job in politics. She should be looking to the Democrat party, they employ lazy people and promote them, a perfect example is her idol Chuck Cook.
The political infighting here reminds me of menstruating women fighting over ignorant sh!t that ha no consequences to advance an agenda that the fighting makes me want to ignore.
