Ocean City Struggling With Purchase Price Of New Beach Playground Equipment

OCEAN CITY – The resort is dealing with sticker shock when it comes to replacing playground equipment on the beach.

On Tuesday, the Recreation and Parks Commission received an update on the endeavor to place additional playground equipment on the beach.

Recreation and Parks Director Susan Petito announced the town received another donation of $2,000 from Greg Shockley of Shenanigans Irish Pub & Grille and the Shoreham Hotel to purchase additional beach playground equipment. Shockley had been working with a group of Boardwalk business owners to collect funding but has been the only donation from the group so far.

“This group would really love to see additional play structures in the future but they are unable to donate money right now,” Petito said. “Play equipment is very expensive.”

Maybe they need some help from Gary Mackes!

I was under the impression you went to the beach to play in the water, not at a playground.

Not everyone wants to play in the water. There are other reason to be there. Food, entertainment, fun and sun.

Replace the children with foreign nationals and maybe the equipment will last longer.

Free wifi would be a better choice since most spoiled kids just want to sit under an umbrella and play video games/send selfies.

5:19pm. Go to a park, that's already built, that has the equipment. It's a beach, not a playground.

Contact andy wisk in wico county. I am sure he can find you some P.O.S. money. He has alot of time these days looking out the window waiting for someone to arrive to tell him what to next.

Why should Shockley or any other business owners fork out any of their hard earned cash for this? The town of OC should foot the bill considering the amount of revenue it generates. The problem is that a TON of the money is wasted on the town's overpaid workers, most of whom have little or absolutely nothing to do for 8 months of the year.

I'm not a city worker - I am a taxpayer in OC.
I will take the team that keeps this town together - keeps it clean and safe for the vacationers - at whatever price.
