Detours in place during Nelson Road Bridge replacement

The Worcester County Department of Public Works implemented plans to replace the Nelson Road Bridge, a three-span, timber-beam bridge located approximately 0.15 mile south of Swamp Road and crosses Careytown Branch. The replacement project began January 7, 2015 and will take approximately 120 days to complete.

There will be no access to this closed bridge until the project is complete. Detours will be in place throughout the entire course of the project. Detours are as follows: 1.5 miles from the intersection of Shavox Church Road to Sheppard’s Crossing Road; 1.5 miles from the intersection of Sheppard’s Crossing Road to Nelson Road; and from the intersection of Sheppard’s Crossing Road to Nelson Road, approximately 1.73 miles.

The Nelson Road Bridge is a county bridge. It was scheduled to be replaced after earning unsatisfactory bridge sufficiency ratings during the county’s annual bridge inspection program. The bridge replacement project is eligible for funding under the Highway Bridge Program.
